James Ihedigbo: Hangs up the cleats
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ihedigbo plans to retire from football, per his personal instagram account.

A standout on special teams early in his career, Ihedigbo eventually proved to be a capable starter at strong safety. The 34-year-old had 394 tackles, eight interceptions, nine forced fumbles and nine sacks in nine seasons, with most of the production coming in a three-year stretch from 2013 to 2015 as a member of the Ravens and Lions.

James Ihedigbo: Wants to play in 2017
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ihedigbo (leg/suspension) wants to play in 2017 after appearing in just four contests in 2016, Michael Rothstein of ESPN reports.

Ihedigbo's 2016 season ended after he fractured his fibula late in the year while playing for the Bills. Though he claims his leg has "100 percent healed," he will still have to sit out four games due to a suspension. The age-33 safety last saw significant playing time in 2015, when he played in 15 games for Detroit and recorded 63 tackles and an interception. The veteran believes he still has gas in the tank, but he may need to wait until a team faces injuries to the safety position before he gets signed.

Bills' James Ihedigbo: Played through fractured leg
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ihedigbo was placed on injured reserve in 2016 due to a fractured leg and not an ankle injury, The Buffalo News reports.

Ihedigbo suffered what was thought to be an ankle injury in Week 14 against the Steelers. However, it turned out to be much worse than that, even though the veteran safety was able to finish out that week's game. It isn't clear how long his recovery will extend into the offseason, but as an unrestricted free agent, he'll need to prove his health in order to land another contract.

Bills' James Ihedigbo: Another Buffalo safety headed to IR
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ihedigbo was placed on injured reserve Tuesday with an ankle injury, reports.

That makes three strong safeties on the IR list for the Bills, as they're now expected to make do with a combo of Jonathan Meeks and Corey White.

Bills' James Ihedigbo: Ankle injury suffered during defeat
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ihedigbo sustained an ankle injury during Sunday's loss to Pittsburgh, reports.

Ihedigbo did have six tackles before departing, though that's partly because everyone in the secondary was far too familiar with Pittsburgh's Le'Veon Bell as the game wore on. If Ihedigbo can't go this week against the Browns, the Bills will likely split his usual workload between Jonathan Meeks and Corey White.

Bills' James Ihedigbo: Active for Sunday's game
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ihedigbo (ankle) is active for Sunday's game against the Raiders.

Ihedigbo was able to practice Thursday and Friday, so the expectation was that he was going to suit up for Week 13. He will likely assume his normal position as the Bills' starting strong safety.

Bills' James Ihedigbo: Uncertain to play
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ihedigbo (ankle) is questionable to play Sunday against the Raiders.

Ihedigbo was back at practice both Thursday and Friday after sitting out Wednesday. His ankle injury doesn't appear to be overly serious, though, so the expectation is for him to be on the field come Sunday. If he's ultimately ruled out, the Bills will likely turn to either borrowed corner Corey White or Sergio Brown as their starting strong safety.

Bills' James Ihedigbo: Misses Wednesday's practice
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ihedigbo missed practice Wednesday due to an ankle injury.

While Ihedigbo isn't a full-fledged starter, he saw the most plays at strong safety in Week 12. With Aaron Williams and Robert Blanton out for the season, the Bills would be down to their fourth option if he can't go Sunday in Oakland. This is the first we've heard of the ailment, however, so there's a chance it's minor as the veteran continues to get himself in game shape after not having an NFL job the first nine weeks of the season.

Bills' James Ihedigbo: Role continues to grow
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ihedigbo played 44 of 68 defensive snaps in Sunday's win over the Jaguars, logging three tackles.

The Bills are using a rotation at strong safety to fill the void stemming from season-ending injuries to Aaron Williams and Robert Blanton, but Ihedigbo ended up getting the most playing time Sunday. The veteran just joined the Bills on Nov. 15 and isn't really worth owing unless he started seeing full-time starter's minutes, but he played a good game Sunday and the thought of him taking over the role completely can't be ruled out down the stretch. Jonathan Meeks only saw 19 defensive snaps and Sergio Brown only saw time on special teams.

Bills' James Ihedigbo: Next stop, Buffalo
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ihedigbo will sign with the Bills on Tuesday, Ian Rapoport of reports.

The Bills are having issues at safety with starter Aaron Williams on injured reserve and no one else really stepping up in his absence. Ihedigbo may have a path to defensive snaps rather quickly.

Lions' James Ihedigbo: Active Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ihedigbo (quadriceps) is listed as active Sunday versus the Vikings, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Following last Sunday's DNP, Ihedigbo will reclaim his place as the Lions' starting strong safety, from which he accrued 36 tackles (28 solo), three forced fumbles, and one sack over the first five games.

Lions' James Ihedigbo: Probable for Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ihedigbo (quad) is listed as probable for Sunday's game against the Vikings.

Ihedigbo figures to return from a one-game absence to resume his role as the starting strong safety. He has 34 tackles (26 solo) and three forced fumbles in five appearances this season.

Lions' James Ihedigbo: Limited participant at practice Thursday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ihedigbo (quadriceps) was listed as a limited participant at practice Thursday.

Ihedigbo, who missed last Sunday's game against the Bears, wasn't able to practice Wednesday as he continues to deal with a quad injury which he suffered during Week 5. While his practice status Thursday seems to indicate the 31-year-old's health is improving, head coach Jim Caldwell was cautious when discussing his safety's status saying, "He got a little bit better, but not quite where we'd like to see him. Hopefully this week he'll be all right." We'll know more about Ihedigbo's game-time designation after Friday's practice.

Lions' James Ihedigbo: Inactive Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ihedigbo (quadriceps) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Bears.

The fact that Ihedigbo won't dress comes as something of a surprise after he was able to return to Friday's practice in limited fashion. He's been a key player in the Lions' secondary this season, generating 36 tackles, three forced fumbles, and an interception over five games. Isa Abdul-Quddus is slated to enter the starting lineup at strong safety in Ihedigbo's place.

Safety James Ihedigbo was the lone absence from voluntary workouts this week for the Lions. But general manager Martin Mayhew understands. After all, Ihedigbo's agent has stated that he would not work without a new contract.

"I look forward to talking with James," Mayhew told ESPN. "I understand what he's going through. I've been through that myself as a player, when I felt that a time in my career that I was underpaid and I had to deal with that.

"So I have empathy for him. I understand what he's going through and I look forward to sitting down and talking with him. I have great respect for him as a player, as a man. I've gotten to know him a little bit away from football and I understand how he feels."

Mayhew declined to discuss whether the Liins will rework Ihedigbo's contract.

The 31-year-old Ihedigbo contributed 71 tackles and two sacks with a career-high four interceptions in 2014 despite missing three games at the start of the year with a nerve injury. He earned Pro Bowl alternate status.
