Defensive end Jared Allen (illness) is the headliner among the defensive questionables for the Bears on Friday for their Sunday game against Green Bay. Also receiving that designation are safety Chris Conte (shoulder) and wideout Brandon Marshall (ankle).

Five Bears have been ruled out. They are offensive linemen Matt Slauson (ankle) and Roberto Garza (ankle), linebacker Shea McClellin (hand), cornerback Sherrick McManis (quad) and nose tackle Jeremiah Ratliff (concussion).

Free safety Ryan Mundy (shoulder) and defensive end Trevor Scott (foot) are probable.

Bears safety Ryan Mundy sustained a "serious stinger" Monday night against the Jets, reports ESPN.com. Mundy had an interception for a touchdown and two tackles in the win. His status for Week 4 is unclear.

Bears DST feasts on Jets' mistakes

The Bears DST scored in the first minute of Monday's win at the Jets. Safety Ryan Mundy intercepted Geno Smith's first pass, a screen intended for Chris Johnson, and returned it 45 yards for a touchdown.

Despite suffering multiple injuries on defense, Chicago went on to produce two more turnovers and register three sacks in the victory. Rookie Kyle Fuller picked off a pass in the end zone, his third interception this season, and safety Ahmad Dixon recovered a muffed punt.

The Bears DST will have a tougher time Week 4 when Green Bay visits Soldier Field.

Bears safety Ryan Mundy suffered a shoulder injury in the second half against the Jets and is questionable to return. Mundy returned an interception 45 yards for a touchdown on the game's second play from scrimmage.

Both Bears' safety spots up for grabs

Five-time Pro Bowler Adrian Wilson and Danny McCray worked as the Bears' starting safeties Friday, but both positions are truly up for grabs, reports ESPN.com. Ryan Mundy, Brock Vereen and M.D. Jennings also have taken snaps with the starters.

Chris Conte (shoulder) and Craig Steltz (groin) remain on the PUP list. If Conte comes back healthy, he'll be a favorite to start at free safety, the website said.

Bears announce two-year deal for Ryan Mundy

The Bears announced the signing of free-agent defensive back Ryan Mundy Tuesday, early in the free agency period. Mundy spent the 2013 season with the Giants, putting up a career-high 77 tackles along with one interception while appearing in all 16 games.

Financial terms of the deal are not yet known.

Giants safety Ryan Mundy got his first career sack during a 23-0 loss Week 15 vs. Seattle. Mundy finished with six tackles (four solo), which included two tackles for loss.

Mundy has a career-high 66 tackles (44 solo) through 14 games.

Giants safety Ryan Mundy was kept quite busy during a 36-21 loss Week 5 vs. Philadelphia. Mundy had a team-high 15 tackles (10 solo, two tackles for loss). 

Mundy already has a career-high 41 tackles (27 solo) through five games.

Giants defense lack standout performers Week 3

The Giants defense didn't have a strong showing in a 38-0 loss Week 3 at Carolina, which meant it didn't have many individual standout performers on defense.

Safety Ryan Mundy had a team-high nine tackles (five solo). Defensive tackle Linval Joseph (five solo) and linebacker Mark Herzlich (four solo) both finished with eight tackles. Cornerback Prince Amukamara had six tackles (four solo) and one pass defense.

The Giants managed only one sack from Mathias Kiwanuka, who had four solo tackles. Defensive lineman Jason Pierre-Paul had five solo tackles (one tackle for loss). 

Cornerback Aaron Ross, who started for the injured Corey Webster, had the team's lone interception.

Ryan Mundy recovers a fumble

Giants safety Ryan Mundy made eight tackles, tied for second-most on the team, and recovered a fumble against the Broncos. On the play, Giants defensive lineman Cullen Jenkins stripped running back Montee Ball and Mundy recovered in the end zone for a touchback.

Six of Mundy's tackles were solo stops.

Giants DST can't hold up

The Giants DST did a respectable job against the Broncos in the first half, as New York trailed only 10-9. But Denver's offense scorched the Giants in the second half en route to a 41-23 win.

The Giants DST failed to sack or intercept Peyton Manning, getting only a fumble recovery from Ryan Mundy. New York, which gave up 416 total yards, has a much better matchup Week 3 at Carolina.

Ryan Mundy bounces back after injury scare

Giants safety Ryan Mundy overcame a concussion scare in Sunday's season opener at Dallas.

Mundy was involved in a collision with fellow teammate Prince Amukamara. Amukamara left the game with a concussion, while Mundy passed his concussion test and was cleared to return to the game. He picked off Tony Romo and took back 91 yards, nearly scoring for the Giants. He posted six total tackles (four solo) with one pass defense in a 36-31 victory.

The Giants will host the Broncos in Week 2.
