Giants' Shane Vereen: Recovered from 2016 triceps injuries
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Vereen (triceps) is healthy after twice tearing his triceps last season, ESPN's Jordan Raanan reports.

Vereen originally hurt his triceps in Week 3 and missed the ensuing nine games while in recovery. However, he perhaps rushed back too soon, as the veteran scatback aggravated the same muscle in Week 14 and subsequently required season-ending corrective surgery. Thankfully, for Vereen, the Giants didn't bring in any legitimate threats to his role as the team's third-down back this offseason, leaving him a clearly-defined role on offense in advance of the 2017 campaign.

Giants' Shane Vereen: Accepts pay cut to stay with Giants
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Vereen (triceps) agreed to reduce his 2017 base salary from $3.15 million to $2.15 million, reports.

With Vereen coming off a season-ending triceps tear while entering the final yearof his contract, there was some question if the Giants intended to keep him around. The question was answered when the team paid him a $500,000 roster bonus March 13 -- likely doing so with the understanding that Vereen would eventually accept a reduction in his base salary. The Giants did recently sign Shaun Draughn, who has done his best work on passing downs in recent years. Draughn is probably an insurance policy more so than legitimate competition, but it's something to keep an eye on in training camp. Paul Perkins currently slots in as the lead back, with Vereen likely handling most of the work on obvious passing downs, assuming his triceps heals as expected. The Giants could still add another running back during the upcoming draft, but such a move would probably be more of a concern for Perkins than for Vereen.

Giants' Shane Vereen: Part of Giants' plans
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Vereen is expected to receive his $500k roster bonus by Monday's deadline, signaling he's a part of the Giants' plans for the upcoming season, NFL Network's Kimberly Jones reports.

Vereen's second season in New York was limited to just five appearances due to a triceps injury. While that absence allowed fellow tailback Paul Perkins to develop nicely over the course of his rookie campaign, the Giants' current lack of other backfield options explains their desire to keep Vereen around. Although the team could certainly add another tailback this offseason, Vereen now entering the final year of his contract should add fuel to his desire for a bounce-back season.

Giants' Shane Vereen: Due $500k roster bonus on March 13
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Vereen (triceps) is scheduled to receiver a $500,000 roster bonus on March 13, reports.

It would thus make sense for the Giants to release Vereen before March 13 if they don't plan to keep him for 2017. While the late-season emergence of Paul Perkins could make Vereen expendable in the wake of an injury-plagued 2016 campaign, the veteran pass-catching back doesn't have an overly cumbersome contract. Vereen might even be willing to forego the roster bonus or accept a smaller base salary in exchange for more guaranteed money as he enters the final year of his three-year deal.

Giants' Shane Vereen: Slated for triceps surgery
by RotoWire Staff | Special to

Vereen will undergo surgery on his triceps injury, Seth Walder of the New York Daily News reports.

After supposedly completing his rehab from an injured triceps, Vereen returned from a nine-game absence in Week 14, only to aggravate the concern in just his second outing back in the fold, getting over a concussion in between that. He'll thus end his second campaign with the Giants with 33 carries for 158 yards and one touchdown, which was accompanied by a typical 11 receptions (on 19 targets) for 94 yards across five appearances.
