LeGarrette Blount: Ending career
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Blount officially retired from the NFL on Saturday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

After nine years and seven different teams, Blount will end his professional football career. The 34-year-old finished with 1,495 carries for a total of 6,306 yards and 58 touchdowns. During Blount's 2016 campaign with the Patriots, the bruising ball carrier registered a whopping 18 touchdowns despite entering the season as an afterthought. The 2018 campaign was officially the last time the veteran saw an NFL snap, as he ended his career as a Lion.

LeGarrette Blount: Auditioning in Oakland
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Blount worked out for the Raiders on Wednesday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.

Blount hasn't taken a snap since the 2018 season, when he played all 16 regular-season games for the Lions. It's unclear what sort of gig Blount could potentially fill in Oakland's backfield, which includes Josh Jacobs, Jalen Richard and DeAndre Washington, but the veteran has historically played a short-yardage/goal-line role.

Lions' LeGarrette Blount: Not expected to stay in Detroit
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Blount isn't expected to re-sign with Detroit before the start of the new league year in March, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Coming off a 2018 campaign in which he managed just 2.8 yards per carry, the 32-year-old running back likely will need to compete for a roster spot wherever he ends up. There's also some chance Blount could simply retire, as his age, recent production and lack of pass-game skills will make it difficult to land a contract for significantly more than the veteran's minimum. The Lions figure to go in a different direction in their search for backfield depth behind Kerryon Johnson (knee).

Lions' LeGarrette Blount: Ends season on sour note
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Blount rushed 11 times for 15 yards during Sunday's victory over Green Bay.

A reliable yet underwhelming veteran presence is about all Blount has been for Detroit in 2018, and that reputation held true Sunday as the plodding runner failed to clear 2.0 yards per carry for the ninth time in 16 contests. Given how effective the 27-year-old Zach Zenner has been over the final four games of the season, it seems unlikely the 32-year-old Blount -- who will be an unrestricted free agent in March -- is high on Lions management's list of priorities to be re-signed this offseason. In fact, there may not be much of a market at all for an aging tailback who averaged just 2.8 yards per carry behind a strong offensive line that allowed Kerryon Johnson (knee) to average 5.4 YPC and Zenner 5.1 YPC.

Lions' LeGarrette Blount: Set to play Week 17
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Blount (knee) is active Sunday against Green Bay.

Blount was limited in practice each day this week, but the knee issue won't prevent him from suiting up for the regular-season finale. His workload is more of a question mark, however, as he's seen 22 or less offensive snaps in each of the last three weeks. Look for Blount to once again split time with the likes of Theo Riddick and Zach Zenner, which unquestionably limits his fantasy ceiling.

Lions' LeGarrette Blount: Questionable for season finale
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Blount (knee) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game in Green Bay, Michael Rothstein of reports.

A limited participant throughout the week, Blount seems to be on track to play in the season finale, likely splitting work with Zach Zenner and Theo Riddick. The three-way timeshare doesn't present much upside for fantasy purposes, but it would at least become somewhat interesting if the Lions were to place Blount on their inactive list prior to Sunday's 1:00 PM ET kickoff.

Lions' LeGarrette Blount: Remains limited in practice
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Blount (knee) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.

Blount was limited for the Lions' final two practices of Week 16 before suiting up in Sunday's 27-9 loss to the Vikings and finishing with 29 yards on 11 carries and minus-5 yards on two receptions. There weren't any reports coming out of the contest suggesting that he aggravated the knee, so his limitations so far this week may just be precautionary. It's generally expected that Blount will be ready to go for a matchup with the Packers this weekend, though he may rank as the team's secondary rushing option behind Zach Zenner.

Lions' LeGarrette Blount: Starts week limited
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Blount (knee) was a limited participant at Wednesday's practice.

Listed with a calf injury last week, Blount ultimately took 13 touches for 24 yards in Sunday's 27-9 loss to the Vikings. He was once again outplayed by Zach Zenner, who turned eight carries into 45 yards. The Lions will likely deploy a backfield committee again Week 17 against the Packers.

Lions' LeGarrette Blount: Bottled up by Vikings
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Blount (calf) rushed 11 times for 29 yards while catching two of four targets for minus-5 yards in Sunday's 27-9 loss to the Vikings.

Blount's 13 touches led all Lions running backs, but he was stuck in low gear throughout, with an average of fewer than two yards per touch. Look for Zach Zenner to take on a larger portion of Detroit's rushing workload at Blount's expense against the Packers in Week 17 after turning his eight carries into 45 yards in this one.

Lions' LeGarrette Blount: Taking the field Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Blount (calf) is listed as active Sunday versus the Vikings, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.

Blount entered the weekend on the heels of back-to-back limited practice sessions, but his calf injury isn't enough to force him into street clothes for the first time this season. During the course of Kerryon Johnson's absence, Blount's usage has waned while Zach Zenner's reps increased and Theo Riddick's workload remained the same. As such, Blount may not be able to surpass his 10.5 touches per game from the last two outings.

Lions' LeGarrette Blount: Game-time call in Week 16
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Blount (calf), who is listed as questionable for Sunday's contest against the Vikings, is considered a game-time decision, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Blount's status for Week 16 is shaky after the calf issue limited his participation in practices Thursday and Friday. Since the Vikings and Lions kick off at 1 p.m. EST, Blount's status will fortunately get resolved early enough for fantasy managers to have other options at their disposal in the event he sits. Even if he suits up though, Blount probably won't make for an enticing fantasy play after effectively serving as the No. 3 option out of the backfield in the Week 15 loss to the Bills. Zach Zenner overtook Blount as the lead option on the ground in that contest, while passing-down specialist Theo Riddick led all Detroit backs with 56 total yards.

Lions' LeGarrette Blount: Uncertain for Week 16
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Blount (calf) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Vikings.

Added to the injury report Thursday after a limited showing in practice, Blount remained limited Friday in the Lions' final session of Week 16. The fact that he was on the field in some capacity offers hope Blount will be ready to go once gameday arrives, but he seems to have fallen behind both Zach Zenner and pass-catching specialist Theo Riddick on the depth chart. After logging double-digit carries from Weeks 12 through 14, Blount toted the rock just seven times and played 11 offensive snaps in the Week 15 loss to Buffalo. Zenner, meanwhile, carried 10 times for 45 yards while playing 26 snaps.

Lions' LeGarrette Blount: Limited by calf issue
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Blount was listed as a limited participant at Thursday's practice due to a calf issue.

Blount didn't appear on the Lions' first practice report of the week Wednesday, so he either hurt his calf in that day's session or was forced to depart early Thursday. It's also possible that the Lions restricted Blount's reps for maintenance purposes under the cover an injury. In any event, Blount's status for Sunday's game against the Vikings will be known shortly after the Lions' final practice Friday.

Lions' LeGarrette Blount: Bottled up by Bills
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Blount managed just nine yards on seven carries while failing to haul in his lone target in Sunday's 14-13 loss to the Bills.

Blount was bottled up while both Zach Zenner and Theo Riddick topped 40 yards on the ground. Zenner -- who scored on a one-yard plunge in this one -- appears to have eclipsed Blount as the short-yardage back of choice in Kerryon Johnson's (knee) absence, which is bad news for the former's fleeting fantasy value heading into Detroit's Week 16 matchup with the Vikings.

Lions' LeGarrette Blount: Totals 51 yards
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Blount rushed 12 times for 33 yards during Sunday's 17-3 victory over Arizona. He caught two passes for 18 yards and also lost one fumble.

While Blount started at running back, backup Zach Zenner showed himself to be the most effective early-down carrier on the roster not named Kerryon Johnson (knee). This is bad news for Blount's future workloads even if Johnson continues to miss time, as Zenner probably deserves to be a bigger part of the offense. Throw in Theo Riddick's usage on passing downs, and Blount could struggle to log a significant number of touches down the stretch of the season. However, Detroit has two tough matchups on deck starting with the Bills' second-ranked defense (294.2 yards per game) in Week 15 and then the Vikings fifth-ranked defense (327.8) in Week 16.

Lions' LeGarrette Blount: Serviceable production as lead back
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Blount rushed 16 times for 61 yards and failed to come up with his only target in the Lions' 30-16 loss to the Rams on Sunday.

Blount helmed the Detroit backfield for the second straight game in the absence of Kerryon Johnson (knee), and although he couldn't quite duplicate his success from Thanksgiving Day, he still turned in a solid stat line overall. Unsurprisingly, Blount wasn't involved in the passing game, limiting his overall upside. With Johnson having a chance to return for a Week 14 battle against the Cardinals, Blount could potentially find himself back to a rather scant workload in that contest.

Lions' LeGarrette Blount: Set for key role again
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Blount will have another chance to lead the Detroit rushing attack with Kerryon Johnson (knee) ruled out for Sunday's game against the Rams, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Blount was surprisingly productive in the Lions' first game without Johnson, taking 19 carries for 88 yards and two touchdowns in a 23-16 loss to the Bears in Week 12. He'll now face a much softer run defense that has yielded 5.2 yards per carry, though volume could be an issue if the superb Rams offense leaves the Lions with a multi-score deficit. In that scenario, more snaps would be on tap for passing-down back Theo Riddick.

Lions' LeGarrette Blount: Finds end zone twice in loss
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Blount rushed 19 times for 88 yards and two touchdowns and brought in his only target for 15 yards in the Lions' 23-16 loss to the Bears on Thursday.

Blount was a bright spot for the Lions in the disappointing home loss, spearheading the ground attack in the absence of Kerryon Johnson (knee). After struggling with efficiency for the majority of the season, Blount's 4.6 yards per carry was a welcome sight and evoked memories of some of his performances in seasons past. The bruising back also scored two trademark short touchdowns, going in for a pair of four-yard scores in the first and second quarter, respectively. Blount could play a prominent role yet again in Week 13 against the Rams if Johnson remains sidelined.

Lions' LeGarrette Blount: Role to increase in Johnson's stead
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Blount is primed for a larger role on offense with Kerryon Johnson (knee) unavailable for Thursday's game against the Bears, Michael Rothstein of reports.

Averaging just 2.3 yards on 78 carries this season, Blount has largely been limited to short-yardage work ever since Johnson emerged as a formidable lead back. The rookie's upcoming absence creates the opportunity for Blount to see more carries, but he'll be facing an excellent defense and likely won't be in line for much work on passing downs. Theo Riddick is a safer option in PPR formats, and Zach Zenner may also poach some snaps from Blount.

Lions' LeGarrette Blount: Musters one yard against Panthers
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Blount rushed seven times for one yard during Sunday's 20-19 victory over Carolina.

Blount's lack of explosiveness was on full display once again, and it again reflected in his stat line. While the veteran could be in store for a much larger workload in the immediate future if Kerryon Johnson's knee injury forces the rookie to miss time, Blount no longer seems to have the skill set to be consistently productive in non-ideal circumstances. Regardless of Johnson's status, Blount will be especially hard to trust for fantasy purposes during a daunting matchup against the Bears in Week 12.
