Jacquizz Rodgers: Cut by Saints
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Rodgers was released by the Saints on Friday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.

Rodgers had been with the Saints for the last three-plus weeks but was unable to impress enough to make the final roster. Rodgers put in some decent work with the Buccaneers over the last three seasons but hasn't had much staying power in the league.

Saints' Jacquizz Rodgers: Finds end zone in preseason finale
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Rodgers carried the ball seven times for 33 yards and a touchdown while catching one of two targets for nine yards in Thursday's preseason loss to the Dolphins.

He led the Saints in carries and was the leading rusher among the RBs, although Taysom Hill actually outgained Rodgers on the ground. The journeyman needed a good performance to unseat Dwayne Washington (concussion) for the No. 3 spot on the depth chart, and while his one-yard TD plunge in the fourth quarter was nice, it may not have moved the needle enough for Rodgers.

Saints' Jacquizz Rodgers: Aligns with Saints
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Rodgers signed a contract with the Saints on Saturday, Luke Johnson of USA Today reports.

Rodgers will replace Rob Kelley, who was released in a corresponding move, on the depth chart. The scatback will likely need to unseat Dwayne Washington on the depth chart in order to earn a spot on the Saints' 53-man roster, but at the very least his versatility figures to be better suited to the team's offense than the lumbering Kelley. Rodgers has recorded at least 60 touches in all but one of his eight professional seasons, but he hasn't been particularly efficient with his looks as of late, averaging under four yards per carry and under 8.3 yards per reception in each of the past two years.

Jacquizz Rodgers: Still available to sign
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Rodgers has yet to sign a contract this offseason, Geoffrey Arnold of The Oregonian reports.

Rodgers isn't expected to stay in Tampa Bay with a new coaching staff taking over, but he might consider following Dirk Koetter back to Atlanta. Whatever the case, it's likely the 29-year-old ends up battling for a roster spot if/when he signs with a new team. Rodgers remained competent as a pass catcher in 16 games for the Bucs last season, bringing in 38 of 45 targets (84.4 percent) for 304 yards without any touchdowns. He owns career marks of just 3.8 yards per carry and 7.4 yards per reception, but his 82.1 percent catch rate (216 of 263 targets) is excellent even for a running back.

Buccaneers' Jacquizz Rodgers: Minimal involvement in finale
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Rodgers rushed three times for three yards and brought in his only target for two yards in the Buccaneers' 34-32 loss to the Falcons on Sunday.

Rodgers wrapped up the 2018 campaign in modest fashion, but the veteran was actually much more involved than what would have been expected prior to the season. In fact, Rodgers was no lock for a roster spot until Charles Sims went down with a knee issue in preseason and was subsequently released with an injury settlement. Rodgers ultimately saw action in all 17 games, although he failed to log any offensive touches in three contests overall. However, the veteran was often deployed as Peyton Barber's primary backup, given that rookie second-round pick Ronald Jones II had trouble staying healthy and was ineffective whenever he did log playing time. Rodgers finished with a modest 106 rushing yards and a touchdown on 33 carries (3.2 yards per rush), but he posted his best reception (38) and receiving yardage (304) totals since the 2013 campaign in Atlanta. A personal favorite of former coach Dirk Koetter from their time together with the Falcons, Rodgers, now an unrestricted free agent, still may struggle to find a role in Tampa Bay's new regime in 2019 and might test the market.

Buccaneers' Jacquizz Rodgers: Significant impact as pass catcher
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Rodgers rushed twice for two yards and a touchdown and brought in all seven of his targets for 55 yards in the Buccaneers' 27-20 loss to the Cowboys on Sunday.

Rodgers' two-yard touchdown with 20 seconds remaining in the first half was his first score on the ground since the regular-season opener against the Bears in 2017. Moreover, the veteran running back made his mark as a receiver out of the backfield, posting his second-best reception and receiving yardage totals of the campaign. Rodgers' production has naturally fluctuated this season as the primary backup to starter Peyton Barber, but his 37 receptions and 302 receiving yards on the season both rank as his third-highest figures in those categories over his eight-year career.

Buccaneers' Jacquizz Rodgers: Minimal involvement in loss
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Rodgers brought in his only target for one yard in the Buccaneers' 20-12 loss to the Ravens on Sunday.

One game after logging eight touches from scrimmage, Rodgers was back to minimal involvement. The Buccaneers opted to give Peyton Barber all of the running back carries Sunday, and the team's second-half deficit also forced them to turn more towards the passing game as the contest wore on. Rodgers also has ceded kickoff return duties to Bobo Wilson the last pair of contests, leaving him with negligible fantasy value.

Buccaneers' Jacquizz Rodgers: Eight touches in Week 14 loss
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Rodgers rushed four times for 16 yards and brought in four of five targets for 38 yards in the Buccaneers' 28-14 loss to the Saints on Sunday.

Despite fellow back Ronald Jones II also being active, Rodgers outpaced his rookie teammate by 27 snaps from scrimmage and saw eight touches to Jones' none. The versatile veteran continues to offer solid production when called upon, especially in the passing game. Rodgers now has equaled his highest reception total since the 2013 season and appears set to remain in his current complementary role for the remainder of the campaign, especially given the gulf between his production and that of Jones.

Buccaneers' Jacquizz Rodgers: Solid complementary effort in win
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Rodgers rushed five times for 31 yards and brought in four of five targets for 31 yards in the Buccaneers' 27-9 win over the 49ers on Sunday.

Rookie Ronald Jones (hamstring) was inactive once again, leaving Rodgers to serve as the primary backup to Peyton Barber. Rodgers was highly efficient on a per-touch basis, and the five carries he logged equaled a season high. The 28-year-old has been effective as a change-of-pace option over the last two games in particular, lending credence to the notion he could stick in his current role and potentially keep Jones inactive in the process. However, the relatively sparse usage he sees limits his fantasy utility to only the deepest of formats.

Buccaneers' Jacquizz Rodgers: Trio of carries in loss
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Rodgers rushed three times for 15 yards and failed to come up with any of his three targets in the Buccaneers' 38-35 loss to the Giants on Sunday.

Rodgers once again played a complementary role behind lead back Peyton Barber in the continued absence of Ronald Jones II (hamstring). One week after a career-high eight receptions, Rodgers failed to come up with any of his targets, lessening his already modest fantasy impact. Outside of his Week 10 outlier performance, Rodgers remains a middling fantasy option in all formats and could potentially revert to inactive status upon Jones' return to health.

Buccaneers' Jacquizz Rodgers: Career-high receiving yardage in loss
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Rodgers netted zero yards on his sole rush but hauled in all eight of his targets for 102 yards in the Buccaneers' 16-3 loss to the Redskins on Sunday. However, he also fumbled into the end zone after a catch, which was recovered by Washington.

This was an ultimate mixed bag for the veteran running back, who generated a career high in receptions and receiving yards. However, Rodgers also had the ball punched out of his grasp after a reception early in the fourth quarter at the Redskins' 19-yard line, leading to a recovery in the end zone by Washington's Zach Brown. It was that type of afternoon for the Buccaneers, which turned the ball over on three occasions in opposing territory. On the bright side, Rodgers continues to enjoy a solid complementary role in the offense, although that could naturally be affected whenever Ronald Jones II returns from a hamstring injury.

Buccaneers' Jacquizz Rodgers: Complementary role in Week 9 loss
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Rodgers rushed twice for 14 yards and brought in two of three targets for minus-4 yards in the Buccaneers' 42-28 loss to the Panthers on Sunday.

With Ronald Jones II (hamstring) out of action Sunday, Rodgers once again served as Peyton Barber's primary backup. The veteran actually generated the Bucs' longest run of the day (15 yards), and he's now logged at least one carry in three straight games. However, Rodgers' role will continue to be capped in similar fashion to Sunday unless an injury were to strike Barber.

Buccaneers' Jacquizz Rodgers: Has passing game role in loss
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Rodgers rushed once for four yards and brought in all four of his targets for 25 yards in the Buccaneers' 37-34 loss to the Bengals on Sunday.

Rodgers didn't have an opportunity to return any kicks Sunday, but he was able to log some meaningful time from scrimmage for the second consecutive week. The veteran running back notably totaled three times the amount of playing time as that of second-round pick Ronald Jones II (hamstring), seeing action on 33 offensive snaps as compared to the latter's 11. Jones' current injury and overall lack of production coupled with Rodgers' reliability as a pass catcher figures to keep the 28-year-old involved in the offense to a modest degree for the foreseeable future.

Buccaneers' Jacquizz Rodgers: Logs four offensive touches in OT win
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Rodgers rushed three times for eight yards and brought in his only target for 11 yards in the Buccaneers' 26-23 overtime win over the Browns on Sunday.

The Bucs changed things up on the playing time front Sunday, with Rodgers logging a robust 30 snaps from scrimmage and one more offensive play than rookie Ronald Jones. There's no indication yet that this is more than a one-game aberration, as Rodgers had been limited to special teams work since Jones was first activated in Week 4 against the Bears.

Buccaneers' Jacquizz Rodgers: Pair of kick returns in Week 6 loss
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Rodgers returned two kickoffs for 31 yards in the Buccaneers' 34-29 loss to the Falcons on Sunday.

Rodgers did not see any work from scrimmage for the second consecutive game, a trend that's coincided with the active status of rookie Ronald Jones II. The versatile veteran will likely be relegated to special teams work moving forward unless there are injuries in front of him.

Buccaneers' Jacquizz Rodgers: Limited to special teams in loss
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Rodgers returned one kickoff for 21 yards and did not log any touches from scrimmage during the Buccaneers' 48-10 loss to the Bears on Sunday.

The veteran running back did play on 13 offensive snaps, but with second-round pick Ronald Jones II active, he didn't see any carries. Sunday's backfield depth chart could be the norm moving forward, meaning that Rodgers should continue retaining active status at the expense of rookie Shaun Wilson and serving as the primary kick returner.

Buccaneers' Jacquizz Rodgers: Modest receiving role in Week 3 loss
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Rodgers lost a yard on two rushes and brought in two of three targets for 18 yards in the Buccaneers' 30-27 loss to the Steelers on Monday night.

It was a typical game with limited touches for Rodgers, who continues to suit up on gameday while 2018 second-round pick Ronald Jones II retains inactive status. The veteran back did see a solid 26 snaps from scrimmage due to the Buccaneers trailing in the contest throughout the second half, but he doesn't warrant fantasy consideration given his minor role in the big picture of Tampa's well-stocked offense.

Buccaneers' Jacquizz Rodgers: Solid in passing game during Week 2
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Rodgers rushed five times for 13 yards and brought in all three of his targets for 23 yards in the Buccaneers' 27-21 win over the Eagles on Sunday.

Although the passing game once again took center stage, Rodgers actually saw a slight boost in rushing attempts while also turning in an effective performance as an outlet receiver out of the backfield. Second-round pick Ronald Jones II was inactive for a second straight game to open his career Sunday, but Rodgers could retain active status on gameday even when Jones begins to suit up.

Buccaneers' Jacquizz Rodgers: Sees minimal Week 1 role
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Rodgers carried twice for one yard and hauled in his only target for two yards in the Buccaneers' 48-40 win over the Saints on Sunday.

Although he was technically listed as the No. 2 running back behind Peyton Barber, Rodgers saw a scant workload over his 15 snaps. Game flow may have played a large part in Rodgers' minimal usage, as the passing game took center stage in the high-scoring affair. While Rodgers figures to see a bump in opportunity in subsequent games, that could certainly be affected by the status of second-round pick Ronald Jones II, who was inactive to open his pro career Sunday.

September 6, 2018 02:08 PM
Buccaneers' Jacquizz Rodgers: Listed as No. 2 running back
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Rodgers is listed as the second running back ahead of second-round pick Ronald Jones II on the initial version of the Buccaneers' regular-season depth chart, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The veteran has seen his fortunes improve significantly since late last month after his roster spot appeared far from guaranteed in the early part of preseason. The first domino to fall was backfield mate Charles Sims' season-ending knee injury, which created an opening for a pass-catching back. That's a description that dovetails well with Rodgers' skill set, but the fact he's also now slotted in ahead of Jones to open the season is particularly noteworthy. Rodgers carried out a traditional running-back role on multiple occasions in 2016 while filling in for the since-departed Doug Martin, even logging 56 carries over a two-game period at one point. Therefore, his No. 2 designation appears legitimate, with Rodgers seemingly in line for a modest, yet steady workload behind starter Peyton Barber that should include more than just short-yardage targets out of the backfield.
