Buccaneers' Brandon Myers: Sees only 14 targets in 2016
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Myers finished the 2016 season with just seven receptions (14 targets) for 59 yards and a touchdown in 16 games.

The veteran tight end, once thought to be an emerging pass-catching threat after totaling 126 receptions for 1,328 yards and eight touchdowns over the 2012-2013 seasons, has primarily been deployed as a blocker in his three Bucs campaigns. Myers' reception and yardage totals this past season were his lowest outside of his 2009 rookie year in Oakland, although he did record his first touchdown in a Tampa uniform in the opener against the Falcons. Now an unrestricted free agent and 31 years of age, Myers could well have played his last snap with the Bucs. Cameron Brate is the clear-cut offensive weapon at the position. Luke Stocker is younger and a better overall blocker. Undrafted rookie Alan Cross offers a similar skill set. Plus, promising prospect Tevin Westbrook, who's spent the last two years on the practice squad, has been signed to a futures contract and is expected to compete for a roster spot next summer. Myers could latch on a roster in need of some veteran tight end help, or in a less likely scenario, return to the Bucs on a veteran minimum-type deal.

Buccaneers' Brandon Myers: On tap for expanded Week 17 role
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Myers will serve as the team's pass-catching tight end in Week 17 versus the Panthers now that Cameron Brate has been placed on IR.

The veteran tight end was originally brought to Tampa before the 2014 campaign in part for his pass-catching chops, a talent he'd demonstrated the two seasons prior by hauling in 126 receptions on 178 targets for 1,328 yards and eight touchdowns with the Raiders and Giants, respectively. However, he's been largely limited in that role during his Bucs tenure, notching just 41 catches over the last three seasons. He should have a chance to turn back the clock to an extent in the season finale, though, as Brate's absence leaves a notable amount of targets on the table that Myers could potentially capitalize on. He'll have the right matchup in this regard as well, given that the Panthers have surrendered the most fantasy points to tight ends in standard scoring formats this season.

Buccaneers' Brandon Myers: Steps up involvement in Week 16 loss
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Myers grabbed two of six targets for 21 yards in Saturday's 31-24 loss to the Saints.

The veteran tight end saw the most targets he had all season due to Cameron Brate exiting the game with a back injury. Myers was once one of the burgeoning receiving tight ends in the game in what seems like a lifetime ago at this point, having notched 126 receptions for 1,328 yards and eight touchdowns during the 2012-13 seasons. His fantasy profile has increasingly taken a hit in his three Bucs seasons, as he's seen his reception totals drop in each of those campaigns. However, if Brate is sidelined for the Week 17 finale versus the Panthers, Myers could make for the sneakiest of DFS punt plays against a Carolina team that's struggled against the position all season.

Buccaneers' Brandon Myers: Notches reception in Week 14 victory
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Myers secured his only target for nine yards in Sunday's 16-11 victory over the Saints.

The veteran tight end made an appearance on the stat sheet for the first time since Week 10, notching only his fifth reception of the season. Given Cameron Brate's emergence, Myers is essentially an afterthought in the Bucs passing game at this point in his career, putting in the majority of his time as a blocker.

Buccaneers' Brandon Myers: Held catchless in Week 13 win
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Myers (hip) was not targeted in Sunday's 28-21 win over the Chargers.

Myers was able to take the field after nursing a hip injury throughout the practice week, but remained firmly entrenched as a blocking tight end, particularly after Luke Stocker (ankle) exited the contest. The veteran's four catches on the season equal the career-low amount he compiled in his rookie campaign in 2009 with the Raiders.

Buccaneers' Brandon Myers: Active for Week 13 versus Chargers
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Myers (hip) is active for Sunday's Week 13 tilt versus the Chargers.

The veteran tight end logged DNPs on Wednesday and Thursday before putting in a full session Friday. He'll resume his usual role as a blocking tight end alongside Luke Stocker against San Diego.

Buccaneers' Brandon Myers: Questionable for Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Myers (hip) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Chargers.

Myers' hip problem caused him to be limited prior to Friday, but after he put in a full practice session to close the week, the veteran appears to be trending in the right direction to suit up Sunday.

Buccaneers' Brandon Myers: Misses practice for second straight day Thursday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Myers (hip) missed practice for a second consecutive day Thursday, Jenna Laine of reports.

The veteran tight end's involvement on offense is virtually non-existent, so a potential absence by Myers on Sunday wouldn't affect the game plan against the Chargers. However, it would give a slight boost to the playing time of rookie Alan Cross, who's managed a pair of catches for 13 yards and a touchdown over the last two contests.

Buccaneers' Brandon Myers: Secures sole target in Week 10 win
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Myers gathered in his sole target for six yards in Sunday's 36-10 win over the Bears.

The veteran tight end made an appearance on the stat sheet for the first time since Week 5, recording only his fourth catch of the season overall. Myers is a far cry from the proficient pass-catching tight end he proved to be back in his breakout 79-catch season with the Raiders in 2012 and primarily serves as a blocker, with limited involvement in the air attack. Meanwhile, Cameron Brate has continued to thrive as a younger and more athletic version of Myers and has a firm grip on the top tight end spot.

Buccaneers' Brandon Myers: Secures only target in Week 5 win
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Myers (hip) secured his only target for 12 yards in Monday's 17-14 win over the Panthers.

The veteran tight end shrugged off his hip injury to log 48 snaps. Myers' 12-yard reception was his longest of the season and only his third grab of the campaign overall. With only five total targets through the first five contests, Myers is not a viable fantasy option.

Buccaneers' Brandon Myers: Active for Monday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Myers (hip) has officially been ruled active for Monday's game against the Panthers, Scott Smith of reports.

Myers was limited in practice throughout the week and was ultimately labeled questionable for Monday's game. He should see an increased role in two-tight end sets, as Luke Stocker (ankle) has been declared inactive.

Buccaneers' Brandon Myers: Questionable for Monday's action
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Myers (hip) is considered questionable for Monday's game against Carolina.

Despite the questionable status, it appears Myers will be available for Monday's contest. He practiced in a limited fashion for most of the week and was a full participant at Saturday's practice. If he does suit up, he'll likely serve as Cameron Brate's primary backup.

Buccaneers' Brandon Myers: Practices in limited fashion
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Myers (hip) was a limited participant in practice Thursday, Jenna Laine of ESPN reports.

Myers injured his hip against the Broncos last week and was unable to return to the game. His participation in practice is an encouraging sign for his Week 5 availability.

Buccaneers' Brandon Myers: Won't return on Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Myers (hip) will not return to Sunday's game against Denver, Buccaneers' Senior writer Scott Smith reports.

Myers left Sunday's game in the second quarter after being targeted just once. Alan Cross could see some extra snaps the rest of the way as the only healthy backup to Cameron Brate.

Buccaneers' Brandon Myers: Injures hip Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Myers is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Broncos as a result of a hip injury, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Prior to his departure in the second quarter, Myers wasn't targeted one time by quarterback Jameis Winston. With just four targets in the first three games of the season, Myers isn't known for his pass-catching prowess, but his blocking will be missed if he's unable to return Sunday.

Buccaneers' Brandon Myers: Only one catch in Week 3 start
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Myers secured one of three targets for seven yards in Sunday's 37-32 loss to the Rams.

The veteran got the start in place of Luke Stocker (ankle), who typically plays the role of blocker. Accordingly, Myers saw the majority of tight end targets (10) go to Cameron Brate, while he remained a virtual non-factor despite Jameis Winston putting up a career-high 58 attempts. Myers would presumably see another start in Week 4 versus the Broncos if Stocker is unable to return to action for that contest.

Buccaneers' Brandon Myers: In line for expanded role in Week 3
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Myers is starting in Sunday's Week 3 tilt versus the Rams following the official deactivation of Luke Stocker (ankle), Scott Smith of the team's official site reports. .

The veteran tight end has earned his NFL chops primarily as a pass catcher, but officially gets the starting nod against the Rams in Stocker's place. Myers could see some modest attention from Jameis Winston when he's not engaged in blocking duties, but Cameron Brate may still see the majority of the tight end targets.

Buccaneers' Brandon Myers: Could see increased role in Week 3
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Myers could see an expanded role in Sunday's game versus the Rams due to the potential absences of fellow tight ends Austin Seferian-Jenkins (personal) and Luke Stocker (ankle).

Both of his aforementioned teammates' statuses remain firmly up in the air for Week 3, with ASJ just having bonded out of jail earlier Friday following an early-morning DUI arrest and Stocker having been unable to practice Wednesday or Thursday due to his ankle injury. If the team opts to discipline the former and/or hold out the latter, Myers, who wasn't targeted at all in Week 2, could see an appreciable boost from the 22 offensive snaps he received against the Cardinals.

Buccaneers' Brandon Myers: Secures only target for touchdown in Week 1
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Myers secured his only target for a four-yard touchdown in Sunday's 31-24 victory over the Falcons.

The largely forgotten man at tight end showed up at an opportune time Sunday, breaking free for a touchdown reception on a Jameis Winston bootleg early in the second quarter that erased a 10-3 deficit at the time. While the score was certainly a welcome sight, his one target on the day is more of an accurate reflection of Myers' place in the passing game pecking order.

Buccaneers' Brandon Myers: Overcomes long odds to make final roster
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Myers defied the odds in making the Bucs' 53-man roster, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The presence of the veteran tight end on the opening day roster seemed like a far-fetched notion at the beginning of training camp, given his progressively reduced involvement in the latter portion of the season last year, as well as the abundance of younger candidates at the position. However, the Bucs surprised by keeping a whopping five tight ends and no true fullback, opening the door for Myers to hang on to a roster spot. Intangibles such as reliability and work ethic largely made the case for him, as he was barely a blip on the preseason radar (one catch for minus-one yard). "I came in this offseason and Coach just told me to do what I've always done, just work. I'm a guy that's never really been handed anything," said Myers, who has 34 catches for 317 yards in two seasons with the Bucs. "I took his advice, just came in and worked and things worked out. I'm very blessed, very excited for this season. We have a good group of guys in our room, a lot of guys in that room that can do a lot of good things for this football team."
