Falcons' J.J. Wilcox: Lands on IR
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Falcons placed Wilcox (knee) on injured reserve Tuesday.

Wilcox suffered a season-ending ACL tear during the first day of Atlanta's training camp. He appeared in two games with the Colts last season, recording four tackles (three solo). With Wilcox out for 2019, Damontae Kazee will likely step up as the primary backup to Keanu Neal (knee).

Falcons' J.J. Wilcox: Devastating injury at start of camp
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Wilcox suffered a torn ACL at practice Monday and is out for the season, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Wilcox went down in a heap and had to be helped off the field by teammates, and he was later seen limping noticeably before being escorted to the locker room by trainers. Coach Dan Quinn did not specify the nature or severity of the issue immediately after practice, but it was revealed soon thereafter that the 28-year-old safety's season would be over before it truly got underway. Wilcox was not expected to start over Keanu Neal (knee-ACL) by any stretch, but he was certainly considered to be a steady rotational player who could see substantial regular-season playing time. Now that Wilcox is out for 2019, Damontae Kazee would likely be the No. 2 option at strong safety if Neal were to miss time.

Falcons' J.J. Wilcox: Lands in Atlanta
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Wilcox agreed to a one-year deal with the Falcons on Monday, Will McFadden of the team's official site reports.

Wilcox suited up for seven games between the Colts and Jets last season without a single start, notching seven tackles in that span. The 28-year-old projects to provide the Falcons with depth at the safety position behind Keanu Neal (knee) and Ricardo Allen (Achilles).

Colts' J.J. Wilcox: Clear of ankle issue
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Wilcox (ankle) was listed as a full participant at Tuesday's walkthrough.

Wilcox was unable to play in Saturday's wild-card win over the Texans, but his quick return to practice -- though it's still just an estimation -- bodes well for the divisional round. The Colts may need the added depth at safety with Clayton Geathers (knee), Mike Mitchell (calf) and Malik Hooker (foot) all nursing injuries.

Colts' J.J. Wilcox: Inactive Saturday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Wilcox (ankle) is listed as inactive for Saturday's wild-card game versus the Colts.

There was optimism that Wilcox would be able to suit up when he was upgraded to from doubtful to questionable Friday. However, he will ultimately watch from the sideline. His absence should not have much of an impact on the Colts' secondary, as Clayton Geathers (knee) is returning from a two-game absence.

Colts' J.J. Wilcox: Upgraded to questionable
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Wilcox (ankle) is upgraded to questionable for Saturday's wild-card game against the Texans, Andrew Walker of the Colts' official site reports.

Wilcox was initially listed as doubtful for Indianapolis' playoff opener due to an ankle injury, but he now appears to be trending in the right direction. With starter Clayton Geathers, who has missed the last two games due to a knee injury, also listed as questionable, Wilcox will be a key reinforcement to the Colts' secondary if he's able to take the field.

Colts' J.J. Wilcox: Considered doubtful
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Wilcox (ankle) is officially listed as doubtful for Saturday's game against the Texans.

Wilcox appears to have picked up an ankle injury during practice, making his status for Indianapolis' playoff opener murky at best. With Clayton Geathers (knee) listed as questionable, Wilcox could be in line for increased snaps if he were to suit up versus Houston.

Colts' J.J. Wilcox: Signed by Indy
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Wilcox was signed by the Colts on Tuesday.

Wilcox brings a veteran presence to the Colts' secondary as the team looks to make a case for the playoffs these next two weeks. He hasn't had much of a defensive role since leaving Dallas after the 2016 season, but figures to provide depth behind Clayton Geathers and Malik Hooker in Indianapolis.

J.J. Wilcox: Let go by Gang Green
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Wilcox was released by the Jets on Monday, Al Iannazzone of Newsday.com reports.

Wilcox served primarily as a depth option at safety during Marcus Maye's absence earlier in the year. With the Jets healthy at the position again and activating cornerback Rashard Robinson (suspension), Wilcox became an expendable piece. Given his experience, it wouldn't be surprising if another team were to take a look at bringing him aboard.

Jets' J.J. Wilcox: Reneges on 49ers, heads to Jets
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Wilcox backed out of a deal with the 49ers and is expected to ink a deal with the Jets instead, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.

Despite agreeing to terms on a one-year contract with the 49ers, Wilcox backed out for unclear reasons. Cimini had sources report that it was either stage fright or a desire to play for Jets head coach Todd Bowles. Either way, Wilcox should be in green and white come Week 1. Bowles has expressed that all 22 starting positions are up for grabs, but Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye both manned the two safety roles as rookies in 2017 and will be looking to make major strides in their development this offseason. This will make it tough for Wilcox to earn a starting job. The 27-year-old slotted into a limited role with the Steelers last season and was held to 12 tackles in 12 games, so he projects as a rotational safety in 2018.

49ers' J.J. Wilcox: Signs with San Fransico
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Wilcox agreed with the 49ers on Tuesday on a one-year deal, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Wilcox was released by the Steelers back in April after he appeared in 12 games and recorded 12 tackles and an interception in his lone season with the club. With Jaquiski Tartt and Jimmie Ward locked in as the starting safeties in San Francisco, Wilcox looks bound to compete for a depth role in the 49ers secondary while also seeing reps on special teams.

J.J. Wilcox: Cut by Pittsburgh in aftermath of draft
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Wilcox was released by the Steelers on Monday, Teresa Varley of the team's official site reports.

Wilcox functioned primarily as a depth safety and special teams asset during his short tenure in Pittsburgh. Once the Steelers' front office decided to bring in rookie safeties Terrell Edmunds and Marcus Allen through the draft, the writing on the wall became apparent.

Steelers' J.J. Wilcox: Grabs first interception of season Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Wilcox recorded five tackles (four solo) and an interception in Sunday's 23-17 overtime loss to the Bears.

Wilcox showed no lingering effects from the concussion he sustained last week, picking off a pass thrown behind Zach Miller at the Chicago 21, which led to a tying field goal by Chris Boswell midway through the fourth quarter. This was his first interception of the season and the sixth of his career. He'll look to add to that total in Week 4 against Baltimore, as the Pittsburgh defense recorded two interceptions in their two games against the Ravens last season.

Steelers' J.J. Wilcox: Practices fully Wednesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Wilcox (concussion) was a full participant at practice Wednesday.

Wilcox looked probable for the Steelers' victory over the Vikings on Sunday, but ultimately did not suit up. Now cleared from the league's concussion protocol, the 26-year-old likely will resume his role as a reserve safety and special teams contributor.

Steelers' J.J. Wilcox: Could play Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Wilcox (concussion) is still in protocol but could play in Sunday's game against the Bears, Dave Lolley of the Washington Observer-Reporter reports.

Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Tuesday that Wilcox is at the tail end of protocol, so it looks like his clearance could come this week. Until the Steelers can provide an official update on Wilcox's status, the safety should be considered day-to-day with the concussion.

Steelers' J.J. Wilcox: Inactive Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Wilcox (concussion) is inactive for Sunday's tilt against the Vikings, Teresa Varley of Steelers.com reports.

Wilcox originally suffered a concussion during the Steelers' Week 1 victory in Cleveland, and it'll keep him sidelined Sunday despite him practicing as a limited participant Friday. Sean Davis and Mike Mitchell are expected to start at safety per usual, with Robert Golden providing depth behind the duo.

Steelers' J.J. Wilcox: Practices in limited fashion
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Wilcox (concussion) was a limited participant in Friday's practice and is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Vikings.

This was Wilcox's first practice of the week, and even though he was limited, it's a good sign for his possible Week 2 return. Although Wilcox is listed as the No. 2 free safety, he still played 20 defensive snaps before being knocked out in Week 1. These moderate reps won't boost him into fantasy contribution, but it makes him valuable to the Steelers' defense as a whole.

Steelers' J.J. Wilcox: In concussion protocol
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Wilcox is in concussion protocol, Dave Lolley of the Washington Observer-Reporter

Wilcox was experiencing concussion symptoms this week after being knocked out in Sunday's win over the Browns. He should be considered day-to-day at this point.

Steelers' J.J. Wilcox: Traded to Pittsburgh
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Wilcox was traded Sunday to the Steelers, Albert Breer of TheMMQB.com reports.

With the Buccaneers signing former Broncos safety T.J. Ward, Wilcox has been shipped off due to a surplus in the team's secondary. With Wilcox now gone, Chris Conte is expected to serve as the team's primary reserve safety this season.

Buccaneers' J.J. Wilcox: Moves up to first team Monday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Wilcox worked as the first-team safety alongside Chris Conte in Monday's practice, Joe Kania of the Buccaneers' official site reports.

Wilcox has primarily been working with the second team and as a nickel corner in practices, but the move to the first team Monday produced impressive results. The free-agent acquisition was effective working against first-round pick O.J. Howard, wresting the ball out of Howard's grip after he had made a tough reception. Additionally, Wilcox made a diving interception of a Ryan Griffin pass while shadowing Howard down the middle of the field on another play. The battle for the two starting safety spots between Conte, Wilcox, Keith Tandy and second-round pick Justin Evans figures to be a spirited one that could endure deep into preseason. Per Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site both Wilcox and Evans will be rotating in with either Conte or Tandy throughout the week.
