Pierce (hamstring) was waived by the Broncos on Monday, Mike Klis of 9 News Denver reports.
Pierce was sidelined with a hamstring injury about a month ago and never was able to make it back to the field. The team expected him to miss a few days once he suffered the initial injury but things never set in motion afterwards. Pierce, a six-year vet, could find a new home given his experience but only if he can prove he's healthy.
After spending the majority of 2016 on the injured reserve, Pierce signed a reserve/future contract with the team during the offseason. It is unclear when Pierce suffered the hamstring injury, but it has kept him absent from the first three weeks of training camp. At this point, he figures to have a tough time earning a spot on the final roster.
Pierce is expected to miss a few days of practice due to a hamstring injury, Mike Klis of 9News reports.
PIerce signed a reserve/future contract with the Broncos in January after spending the year on the injured reserve. The severity of his hamstring injury is unknown, but he figures to be cautious in order to avoid a lingering issue. However, he is competing for a role providing depth at running back on the final roster, so a return sooner than later will be in his best interest.
The fifth-year back has played in 52 NFL games, including three starts, with the Ravens and Jaguars since 2012. Most recently, he spent time with the Jets but landed on injured reserve due to a hamstring issue, forcing him to miss the entirety of the 2016-17 season.
