Delaire (knee) was waived by the Panthers on Tuesday after failing a physical.
Delaire missed 10 games last season due to this knee injury, and now he will hit the waiver wire. In the six games he did appear in, Delaire recorded six tackles and a sack. At 25 years old, he's still young and will likely have another chance with a different organization.
Delaire (knee) may not be ready for the start of training camp, Steve Reed of the Associated Press reports.
Delaire's 2016 campaign was shortened due to a knee injury, which appears to still be an issue at this stage in the offseason. He'll be competing for a depth spot at defensive end upon his eventual return to the practice field.
Delaire (knee) has been placed on injured reserve, David Newton of ESPN reports.
Delaire appeared in only six games for Carolina this season, as he missed a chunk of time while on IR from Week 4 to Week 12. The Panthers signed Larry Webster from the practice squad to fill Delaire's roster spot for Sunday's season finale against Tampa Bay.
Delaire was held out of practice all week due to his knee issue, rendering his status for Week 16 unsurprising. As a depth defensive lineman, his absence shouldn't impact the snap distribution much.
Delaire was shelved on IR two weeks into the 2016 campaign but returned to practice Monday and is expected to be full go come Sunday, when he'll likely revert to the backup defensive end role he filled before going down. Given his activation, no other Panthers player will be allowed to return from injured reserve for the remainder of the season.
