Young (groin) was waived with an injury settlement by the Redskins on Thursday, Stephen Czarda of the Redskins' official site reports.
Young was placed on injured reserve earlier in the week due to a groin ailment but the Redskins have now decided to part ways with the 25-year-old.
The Panthers made round of cuts Tuesday and released a pair of contributors in the secondary with Young and Tre Boston both gone. Young primarily saw the field on special teams, but he could have been in line for a bigger role on defense in the upcoming year. The 6-foot-1 corner out of Georgia Tech could get scooped up by a team looking to add secondary depth during training camp.
Tight end, Scott Simonson was released to make room for Young's promotion. The 25-year-old Young should not be expected to do more than add secondary depth and potentially help out on the special teams units.
