Jones was waived by the Bears on Thursday, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Jones was promoted to the active roster last week, but he could now find himself back on the practice squad as long as he clears waivers. The linebacker played eight snaps against the Buccaneers last Sunday.
Jones' promotion comes after linebacker Leonard Floyd was placed on injured reserve. With the Bears' linebacking unit plagued with injuries, it's possible Jones could ultimately see some snaps, but he's expected to play a reserve role on defense early on.
Jones now can test the market but may have trouble finding work as he continues to recover from ACL surgery. Before the injury, the defensive end split time on special teams and defense, recording three tackles in eight games.
