Seahawks' L.J. Collier: Gets minor ankle surgery
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Collier revealed in his appearance Wednesday on NFL Network's "Good Morning Football" that he underwent arthroscopic ankle surgery earlier in the week.

Collier didn't miss any games in 2020, making 16 starts in the regular season and one more in the playoffs. His total of three sacks in 27 career games is disappointing for a first-round pick, but he at least gave the Seahawks competent snaps at multiple defensive-line positions in his second pro season. Collier didn't sound too worried about the ankle scope, and he should be healthy before training camp.

Seahawks' L.J. Collier: Notches first career sack
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Collier recorded three tackles and a sack in Sunday's 27-26 win over the Vikings.

Collier has endured a shaky start to his career, as he was a first-round pick in 2019 but served as a healthy scratch on multiple occasions during his rookie year. He's carved out a more consistent role in 2020, and he's finally registered his first sack. However, Collier played just 46 percent of the snaps while rookie Alton Robinson logged a 40 percent share, and his playing time could slip further when Rasheem Green (neck) returns from IR.

Seahawks' L.J. Collier: Earns starting job
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Head coach Pete Carroll said Collier will start at defensive end Sunday versus the Falcons, Brady Henderson of reports.

Collier beat out Rasheem Green for the starting gig opposite Benson Mayowa, although Carroll said both defensive ends should get plenty of tread. After being selected in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft, Collier played just 155 defensive snaps over 11 games (five healthy scratches) and recorded three tackles. Carroll believes he's in better shape this year and should have an impact immediately, but the 25-year-old has minimal IDP value at this time.

Seahawks' L.J. Collier: Disappointing rookie season
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Collier made three tackles over 11 games in the 2019 season.

Many said Collier was a reach when the Seahawks took him 29th overall in last year's draft, and the 24-year-old didn't do much to change those opinions. He played 10 or more defensive snaps in just six games, and he was a healthy scratch for both playoff games. Of course, it's not easy to battle for playing time against Jadeveon Clowney (core) and Ezekiel Ansah (neck), but that duo missed eight games between them and Collier didn't adjust to the pro ranks quickly enough to take advantage. Ansah will likely move on and Clowney's status for 2020 is to be determined, but even if both leave Seattle, Collier will have to compete with Rasheem Green, Branden Jackson and Quinton Jefferson (foot) for reps next year. The Seahawks will likely address their pass rush in free agency and the draft, too.

Seahawks' L.J. Collier: Ready for debut
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Collier (coach's decision) will be active for Sunday's game against the Cardinals, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.

Collier has been inactive for the first three games of his NFL career as a healthy scratch. However, coach Pete Carroll now appears comfortable enough to give him the green light. The rookie will provide depth at defensive end and presumably help contribute on special teams.

Seahawks' L.J. Collier: Remains healthy scratch
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Collier (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's Week 3 tilt against the Saints.

The 2019 first-round pick will have to wait at least another week to make his NFL debut. Collier had previously dealt with an ankle injury, but he'd been cleared to play ahead of the Week 2 tilt against the Steelers last Sunday.

Seahawks' L.J. Collier: May be healthy scratch
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Coach Pete Carroll said Collier (ankle) has been cleared to play but may be inactive for Sunday's game versus the Steelers, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.

Carroll tends to hold his cards close to the chest when it comes to injuries and who's going to play, and he continues to do it on the defensive line where DE Ezekiel Ansah (shoulder) is questionable and DT Poona Ford (calf) is doubtful. He also stated that he wanted to see what rotations would be necessary Sunday. Reading between the lines, the Seahawks only have two healthy defensive tackles -- Al Woods and Bryan Mone -- if Ford can't play, so they'll likely need a defensive end to bump inside. If that happens, Collier's depth will be necessary at defensive end. It's nearly impossible to tell what Carroll has planned, but it seems unlikely he keeps the team's first-round pick out of the defense altogether.

Seahawks' L.J. Collier: Practices fully Thursday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Collier (ankle) was a full participant in Thursday's practice, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.

Collier's full participation Thursday is a step in the right direction, as he was limited in Wednesday's practice. The 24-year-old has been nursing an ankle injury since the start of training camp, but he seems to be on track to suit up Sunday against Pittsburgh.

Seahawks' L.J. Collier: Expected to return soon
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Collier (ankle) is expected to return to practice Wednesday and participate fully, Liz Mathews of Seahawks Wire reports.

Collier missed the season opener Sunday with an ankle injury that he's been nursing since the start of training camp. When healthy, the 23-year-old is expected to at least provide depth on Seattle's defensive front.

Seahawks' L.J. Collier: Ruled out for Week 1
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Collier (ankle) will not play in Sunday's game against the Bengals, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.

Collier was able to put in limited work during practice this week, but it still won't be enough for him to play in Week 1. Collier is still working his way back from a significant ankle sprain he suffered in late July and should be considered week-to-week.

Seahawks' L.J. Collier: Return to practice looming
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Collier (ankle) resumed running on flat ground Friday and is nearing a return to practice, Curtis Crabtree of Sports Radio 950 KJR Seattle reports.

Collier is working his way back from a significant ankle sprain. The 2019 first-round pick appears to be making good progress in his recovery, though it remains to be seen whether he'll be ready to go for the start of the regular season. With Nazir Jones (knee) also managing an injury, Barkevious Mingo, Cassius Marsh, Branden Jackson and Rasheem Green stand to see increased work as long as Collier remains sidelined.

Seahawks' L.J. Collier: Pushing for Week 1 debut
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Collier said Tuesday that he has a legitimate chance to be ready for Week 1 as he nurses a sprained ankle, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Collier was carted off the field during last Tuesday's practice and was diagnosed with a "badly sprained" ankle. As noted by Rapoport, a source with the team told him that the sprain is actually on the top of his foot, which isn't as serious as a high-ankle sprain. Expect the team to update their 2019 first-round pick's status as Week 1 approaches, but in Collier's stead, Nazir Jones should continue to take increased reps with the first team.

Seahawks' L.J. Collier: Managing ankle sprain
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Coach Pete Carroll said Thursday that Collier will remain sidelined for multiple weeks due to a "badly sprained ankle," Brady Henderson of reports.

A specific timetable for Collier's return remains undisclosed, but it appears possible that his absence could extend over the entire preseason and possibly into the regular season. Carroll called Collier's sprain "rare" and "unusual," making it increasingly difficult to estimate a possible return date. With Ezekiel Ansah (shoulder) also nursing an injury, Nazir Jones appears primed for increased reps with the first team.

Seahawks' L.J. Collier: Carted off field Tuesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Collier sustained an apparent high ankle sprain during Tuesday's practice and is likely out for the preseason, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Seattle used a first-round pick on Collier in this year's draft. When healthy, the TCU product is expected to play a big role in the Seahawks' pass rush, considering Frank Clark -- their 2018 sack leader -- signed a five-year deal with Kansas City.

Seahawks' L.J. Collier: Surprise selection for Seattle
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Seahawks selected Collier in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft, 29th overall.

This is a strange selection, and one that figures to draw plenty of criticism. Collier shows a decent amount of skill and has some interesting inside-out versatility at 6-foot-2, 283 pounds, but the emphasis in that case might be on the 'inside' part given that Collier showed poor athletic testing (4.91-second 40, 30-inch vertical, 12.59 agility score). He doesn't really have production to make his case, either, as his senior season at TCU saw him total six sacks and 11.5 tackles for loss in what was by far his most productive season.
