Fruechte was waived by the Vikings on Saturday, Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Fruechte was looking to earn a role as both a kick returner and depth wide receiver, but failed to make enough of an impression. The former Minnesota Gopher will now look for an opportunity outside of Minnesota if he does not land on the Vikings' practice squad.
Fruechte was promoted to the Vikings' active roster from the practice squad on Saturday, Chris Tomasson of TwinCities.com reports.
Fruechte has earned a hometown appearance in Week 17, as the former Minnesota Golden Gopher will get a chance to see targets behind Adam Thielen and Cordarrelle Patterson due to several injuries at wide receiver.
