Jordan Scarlett: Waived by Carolina
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Panthers have waived Scarlett, Myles Simmons of the team's official site reports.

In a corresponding move, the team added kicker/punter Kaare Vedvik, costing Scarlett his roster spot. It remains to be seen if he resurfaces with the Panthers at a later date, but the 2019 fifth-rounder was limited to just four carries in nine games as a rookie last season.

Panthers' Jordan Scarlett: May contribute in 2020
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Running backs coach Jeff Nixon said earlier this month that he expects Scarlett (knee/ankle) to compete for secondary reps behind starting running back Christian McCaffrey during training camp, Myles Simmons of the Panthers' official site reports.

The 24-year-old had only four carries across nine games as a rookie in 2019 before landing on injured reserve with knee and ankle issues, but his new position coach still likes his potential. Scarlett, a fifth-round pick last year, will likely have some ground to make up on Reggie Bonnafon if he's to have a realistic chance of earning the No. 2 job behind McCaffrey.

Panthers' Jordan Scarlett: Sent to IR
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Panthers placed Scarlett (knee/ankle) on injured reserve Friday, Max Henson of the team's official site reports.

The fifth-round rookie finishes his inaugural season with seven snaps on offense and 113 on special teams, taking four carries for nine yards. Reggie Bonnafon won the preseason competition for the No. 2 spot at running back, but Scarlett should return in 2020 to compete for that same role. It isn't clear if either his knee or ankle injury is considered severe. Whatever the case, Mike Davis will step in on special teams while also serving as the No. 3 running back.

Panthers' Jordan Scarlett: Ruled out for Week 13
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Scarlett (knee/ankle) is ruled out for Sunday's game against Washington, Bill Voth of the Panthers' official site reports.

Scarlett suffered a knee injury during Week 12's game against the Saints, and he isn't yet ready to retake the field. In his absence, Reggie Bonnafon and Mike Davis will serve as the backups to star running back Christian McCaffery.

Panthers' Jordan Scarlett: Dealing with two injuries
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Scarlett (knee/ankle) didn't practice Wednesday, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.

Scarlett exited this past Sunday's game against the Saints with a knee injury and didn't return. It's concerning that he's listed as DNP to start the practice week, but his potential absence for Sunday's game against the Redskins would mainly affect special teams and depth behind Christian McCaffrey.

Panthers' Jordan Scarlett: Done for rest of game
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Scarlett (knee) is ruled out for the remainder of Sunday's game against the Saints, Max Henson of the Panthers' official site reports.

It didn't take long for Scarlett to go from questionable to out, so his practice status will likely be monitored over the upcoming week. Reggie Bonnafon is now the only backup to bell cow Christian McCaffrey.

Panthers' Jordan Scarlett: Tweaks knee
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Scarlett (knee) is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Saints, Bill Voth of the Panthers' official site reports.

The injury occurred on special teams as Scarlett isn't an offensive regular. With Scarlett's departure, Reggie Bonnafon is the only healthy running back behind starter Christian McCaffrey.

Panthers' Jordan Scarlett: Gets late carries
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Scarlett rushed four times for nine yards in Sunday's 51-13 loss to the 49ers.

Scarlett's carries all came on Carolina's final offensive drive when the game result was already long past being decided. The rookie played only those four snaps on offense, trailing fellow tailback Reggie Bonnafon's 12, as both continue to be used very sparingly behind superstar Christian McCaffrey.

Panthers' Jordan Scarlett: No offensive snaps in debut
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Scarlett did not feature on any offensive snaps in Sunday's 30-27 loss to the Rams.

Scarlett got on the field for five plays on special teams but watched Christian McCaffrey for all 67 of Carolina's offensive snaps. Although the Panthers hope to be more judicious with McCaffrey's workload over the course of this season, Week 1 didn't offer Scarlett, the team's rookie fifth-rounder, any opportunities to spell the superstar.

Panthers' Jordan Scarlett: In backup mix
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Following the release of Cameron Artis-Payne, Scarlett is now in the mix to serve as Christian McCaffrey's top backup, ESPN's David Newton reports.

The Panthers' posted depth chart lists Reggie Bonnafon and Scarlett, in that order, behind McCaffrey. As a result, in the absence of any veteran additions, both Bonnafon and Scarlett -- a 2019 fifth-rounder -- are now just one injury away (to McCaffrey) from both added opportunities and fantasy consideration.

Panthers' Jordan Scarlett: Scores in preseason finale
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Scarlett rushed 11 times for 22 yards, and caught all three of his targets for 25 yards and a touchdown in Thursday night's 25-19 preseason win over the Steelers.

Scarlett entered the game on Carolina's second offensive series, featuring behind veteran Cameron Artis-Payne. Although Scarlett didn't get much going on the ground, his eight-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter helped him clinch a better performance than Artis-Payne, who finished with 10 yards on three touches. At worst, Scarlett will begin his rookie season as the Panthers' No. 3 tailback, but it wouldn't be surprising if he's deemed Christian McCaffrey's backup before long.

Panthers' Jordan Scarlett: Leads Carolina in carries
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Scarlett rushed 10 times for 24 yards and caught his only target for eight yards in Thursday night's 10-3 preseason loss to the Patriots.

Scarlett entered the contest after Christian McCaffrey, adding confidence to his prospects of serving as Carolina's top backup this season. Although the rookie fifth-rounder didn't produce all that much, his involvement should surely have fellow tailbacks Cameron Artis-Payne and Elijah Holyfield on alert ahead of the regular season roster cut down, especially considering those two combined to play one offensive snap Thursday.

Panthers' Jordan Scarlett: Picks up 49 yards
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Scarlett rushed for 35 yards on eight carries and added a 14-yard catch during Friday's 27-14 loss to Buffalo.

Scarlett entered the game in the second quarter in relief of Cameron Artis-Payne and did a solid job of moving the chains on the way toward a pair of second-quarter field goals. Scarlett seems -- on the outset -- like the perfect foil for Christian McCaffrey, a powerful early-down back who can take some of the hits for Carolina's superstars. In practice, McCaffrey carried the ball for 52.6% of Carolina's attempts in 2018, with Cam Newton running for another 24.3%. Surely, the goal is going to be to limit Newton's carries, but will it be enough for Scarlett to be much of a factor?

Panthers' Jordan Scarlett: Will play Friday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Scarlett will play in Friday's preseason game against the Bills, Max Henson of the Panthers' official site reports.

Scarlett missed about a week and a half due to a back injury but returned to practice earlier this week. It looks like the rookie running back is in fine condition now and is in line to make his Panthers debut Friday.

Panthers' Jordan Scarlett: Returns to practice
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Scarlett (back) will participate in team drills Monday, Brendan Marks of The Charlotte Observer reports.

Held out since Aug. 2, the rookie fifth-round pick will now resume his quest to beat out Cameron Artis-Payne, Elijah Holyfield and Reggie Bonnafon for backup work behind Christian McCaffrey. A strong preseason from Scarlett or one of the other options might inspire the Panthers to occasionally take McCaffrey off the field for a breather during the regular season.

Panthers' Jordan Scarlett: Not quite ready
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Contradictory to an earlier report, Scarlett (back) did not suit up for practice Sunday, David Newton of reports.

Scarlett missed Thursday's preseason opener against Chicago with back soreness, which resulted from a hit he sustained in practice Aug. 2. When healthy, the rookie is expected to compete for the backup role behind Christian McCaffrey. Until Scarlett actually returns to practice, Cameron Artis-Payne, Elijah Holyfield and Reggie Bonnafon will take advantage of the extra reps.

Panthers' Jordan Scarlett: Back at practice
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Scarlett (back) suited up for practice Sunday, Max Henson of the Panthers' official site reports.

Scarlett sat out of Thursday's preseason opener against the Bears with back soreness, the result of a hit sustained in practice Aug. 2. The rookie fifth-round pick can now resume competing for backup reps behind Christian McCaffrey.

Panthers' Jordan Scarlett: Will sit out Thursday's contest
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Scarlett (back) will not suit up for Thursday's preseason contest against the Bears, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.

Scarlett is managing back soreness as a result of a hit sustained during Friday's practice and did not participate Monday, according to Person. As long as Scarlett remains sidelined, Cameron Artis-Payne, Elijah Holyfield and Reggie Bonnafon stand to see increased work in training camp and preseason games. The rookie fifth-round pick is competing for backup duties behind Christian McCaffery, and will look to get healthy as soon as possible.

Panthers' Jordan Scarlett: Joins Carolina backfield
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Panthers selected Scarlett in the firth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, 154th overall.

Scarlett will almost exclusively act as a two-down back for Carolina, which should come as no surprise for those who have watched the redshirt junior "develop" as a receiver at Florida. Scarlett flashed a bit of speed at the combine, registering a 4.47 40-yard dash that seemed to back up the acceleration he displayed on tape. More of a downhill runner capable of bullying forward for extra yards, it's not hard to envision a scenario in which Scarlett takes on a role similar to what C.J. Anderson provided in his abbreviated 2018 campaign with the Panthers, though the former should prove to be far more explosive if given enough space.
