The Panthers placed O'Brien (undisclosed) on injured reserve Friday, per the NFL transactions page.
O'Brien was injured at some point during the preseason, though his prospects of making the team were low anyway. It's unclear what's bothering O'Brien, but he'll be shut down for the 2019 campaign.
O'Brien signed a contract with the Panthers on Friday, Bryan Strickland of the team's official site reports.
O'Brien was working with the Alliance of American Football, but the league suspended its operations so he will try to secure a roster spot with the Panthers this offseason.
O'Brien was waived by the Browns on Friday.
O'Brien inked a deal with the Browns in late July to fill the void left by Chris Barker (Achilles) during training camp. He has spent the last two seasons on the Colts practice squad and could be a candidate to end up in the same capacity with the Browns.
O'Brien signed a contract with the Browns on Sunday, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
With offensive lineman Chris Barker (Achilles) being waived Sunday with an injury designation, the team signed O'Brien to an undisclosed contract to fill the void. O'Brien spent the last two seasons on the Colts' practice squad and will have the opportunity to provide offensive line depth.
