Mills was waived by Detroit on Tuesday, Kyle Meinke of MLive.com reports. The Lions ended up keeping four running backs on the roster, but the last spot on the depth chart went to converted safety Godwin Igwebuike, who has apparently impressed the team in his conversion to the backfield. However, if Mills isn't claimed by another team off waivers, he's a strong candidate for a spot on the practice squad.... See More ... See Less

Lions' Dedrick Mills: Totals 67 yards
Mills rushed four times for 21 yards while catching four of four targets for 46 yards during Friday's preseason game against Indianapolis. Mills finishes the exhibition slate with 62 rushing yards on 13 carries while catching seven of seven targets for another 53 yards. While this was a relatively strong finish to the preseason for the 24-year-old rookie, it's not certain that Detroit will carry four running backs on the final roster. If the team does, Godwin Igwebuike seems like the top candidate.... See More ... See Less -
Lions' Dedrick Mills: Gets six touches in preseason loss
Mills rushed four times for nine yards while securing both of his targets for seven yards during Saturday's preseason loss to the Steelers. With Jermar Jefferson seemingly locked into the No. 3 role behind D'Andre Swift (groin) and Jamaal Williams, Mills now seems to be in a battle with Craig Reynolds and Godwin Igwebuike for a potential No. 4 job at running back. While Mills didn't do anything special in this one, he did have an impressive 20-yard gain on fourth-and-1 in the preseason opener last week against Buffalo. If each of Swift, Williams and Jefferson are rested for the preseason finale, Mills could have his biggest exhibition workload yet when Detroit takes on Indianapolis on Friday.... See More ... Lions' Dedrick Mills: Competing for No. 3 role
Mills is competing with Jermar Jefferson and Michael Warren for the No. 3 job at running back, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports. With Kerryon Johnson out of the picture, Detroit's remaining depth options at running back will duke it out for snaps behind D'Andre Swift and Jamaal Williams. However, Mills and Warren seem to have an uphill battle to come away with the job considering Jefferson clearly drew the strongest reviews during the offseason program.... See More ... See Less
