Saints' Drew Brees: Takes back seat to run game
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Brees completed 18 of 25 pass attempts for 184 yards Sunday against the Bills. He also ran for six yards and a touchdown on two carries.

Brees simply played the roll of game manager in this one, taking a back seat to a rushing attack that churned out 298 yards on the ground. He got in on the action himself, scoring on a seven-yard scamper in the third quarter that afforded him some semblance of fantasy utility. The emergence of the running game has made Brees a bit more prone to lean weeks of late, but he remains a threat to post big numbers on a game-by-game basis and will continue as such next week agiainst the Redskins.

Saints' Drew Brees: Lethally efficient in win
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Brees completed 22 of 27 passes for 263 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 30-10 win over the Buccaneers. He also gained two yards on four rushes and fumbled once.

Brees averaged 9.7 yards per attempt and connected with both Alvin Kamara and Ted Ginn, Jr. for his scores. The prolific signal caller posted his second consecutive game with a completion rate north of 80.0 percent while throwing multiple touchdowns for the first time since Week 6. The slight adjustment in the team's offensive philosophy that's places a greater emphasis on the run has served to cap Brees' overall production, but he's still generated a 13:4 TD:INT and is averaging an impressive 276.8 yards through the air over eight contests. He'll look to continue his strong season in a road matchup against the Bills in Week 10.

Saints' Drew Brees: Reaches 6,000 completions in win
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Brees completed 23 of 28 passes for 299 yards without a touchdown or turnover in Sunday's 20-12 win over the Bears.

Brees found out the hard way how Chicago had been able to win its previous two games despite minimum contributions from its passing game, as the Bears' playmaking defense held him without a touchdown for the first time this season. The veteran quarterback still led his team to a pair of first-half rushing scores, setting the first one up with a 54-yard completion to Brandon Coleman. Brees also became the third quarterback in NFL history to complete 6,000 passes when he hit Michael Thomas for 23 yards in the fourth quarter, joining Brett Favre (6,300) and Peyton Manning (6,125).

Saints' Drew Brees: Reaches career milestone in win
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Brees completed 27 of 38 passes for 331 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions in Sunday's 26-17 win over the Packers. He also netted minus-1 yard on five rushes.

The prolific passer's afternoon got off to an inauspicious start, as threw both of his picks in the first quarter. However, Brees rebounded to become only the fourth player in NFL history to throw at least 500 touchdown passes (including postseason) when he fired a 22-yard scoring dart to Brandon Coleman in the third quarter. With Willie Snead (hamstring) sidelined, Brees displayed great synergy with top targets Ted Ginn, Jr. (seven receptions, 141 yards) and Michael Thomas (seven receptions, 82 yards) while also finding rookie running back phenom Alvin Kamara five times through the air. The Saints have displayed excellent balance over the last two games in terms of run-pass ratio, a factor that can only work in Brees' favor over the long term. He'll look to put together his third 300-yard effort of the season when New Orleans tangles with the Bears in Week 8.

Saints' Drew Brees: Held to 186 yards in win
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Brees completed 21 of 31 passes for 186 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in Sunday's 52-38 win over Detroit.

You'd have to go back to Week 12 of the 2013 season for the last time Brees was held under 200 passing yards. The fact the Saints defense generated two pick-sixes and the team was in position for much of the second half to try to run out the clock can be seen as contributing factors. Brees himself threw an ugly pick-six late Sunday and snapped his four-game streak without an interception to start the season. Expect Brees to return to his more typical statistical output next week against a reeling Packers squad.
