Pankey (undisclosed) was placed on the practice squad injured list Tuesday by the Dolphins, Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald reports.
Pankey failed to make Miami's season-opening roster but stuck around via the practice squad, though he'll now be unavailable for at least a few weeks due to the unspecified injury.
Pankey re-signed Wednesday with the Dolphins on a one-year contract, Cameron Wolfe of ESPN.com reports.
The Dolphins elected not to tender the 27-year-old a contract as a restricted free agent, but Miami will still keep him in the fold on a lesser deal. Pankey was claimed off waivers in December and filled a reserve role down the stretch for Miami.
