The Texans signed Whitney to a future/reserve contract Tuesday.
Whitney signed with Houston's practice squad in September and remained there for the duration of the season. The wide receiver joined the Raiders as an undrafted free agent in 2017, appearing in two games but failing to record a statistic. He'll have an opportunity to make the Texans' roster in 2019.
The Texans signed Whitney to their practice squad Tuesday.
To make room for Whitney on the practice squad, the Texans released receiver Malachi Dupre. Whitney signed as an undrafted free agent by the Raiders in 2017 and was active for two games.
Whitney was promoted to the Raiders' active roster Tuesday, Michael Gehlken of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.
The undrafted rookie out of USC will make his NFL debut this Sunday against the Giants after spending the preseason with Raiders before being signed to the practice squad prior to Week 1. Don't expect Whitney to see many offensive reps, as he will be the fifth wideout on the depth chart -- but with Michael Crabtree suspended and Amari Cooper (concussion, ankle) not at full strength, Whitney could get an opportunity at some point during the contest.
