Meadors was waived by the Vikings on Friday, Chris Tomasson of TwinCities.com reports.

Meadors was promoted to the Vikings' active roster last Saturday prior to the team's season opener against the Packers. Assuming he clears waivers, his most likely destination is back to Minnesota's practice squad.

Meadors started his 2019 rookie season playing two games for the Vikings before spending the rest of the year on the practice squad. The Vikings are entering Sunday's divisional clash versus the Packers with just two healthy safeties, so adding Meadors -- a cornerback -- gives them some flexibility in the secondary, although he'll likely stick to special teams.

Meadors signed a contact with the Vikings on Friday.

Meadors spent a couple weeks on Minnesota's 53-man roster early in the season and was waived prior to Week 4, but he now rejoins the roster for the NFC divisional round. The 22-year-old should serve in a depth role at cornerback while also working on special teams.

With Mike Hughes (knee) good to go and Mackensie Alexander (elbow) trending up, cornerback depth wasn't needed as much as wideout depth anymore. Meadors' roster spot was filled by Davion Davis.

Meadors' spot on the 53-man roster comes following the placement of Josh Doctson (leg) on injured reserve. The undrafted rookie out of UCLA projects to provide Minnesota with depth in the secondary and play a role on special teams.
