Kevin Williams: Retires with Vikings
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Williams will retire on Thursday.

Williams, who has logged more starts (171 games) at defensive tackle for the Vikings than any other player, signed a one-day deal to retire in Minnesota. The 35-year-old Williams was the ninth overall selection by the Vikings in 2003 and registered 63 sacks, 529 tackles, nine forced fumbles and five interceptions in his 13-year career spent with the Vikings (11 seasons), Seahawks, and Saints (1 season each). At his peak, Williams was one of, if not, the best defensive tackle in league, selected to six Pro Bowls and named a First-team All-Pro five times.

DT Kevin Williams admits visiting Saints, hopes to stay with Seahawks
by Marty Gitlin |

Free agent defensive tackle Kevin Williams has confirmed that he visited the Saints, but he added his preference is to remain with the Seahawks.

The former Vikings standout and six-time Pro Bowler is hoping to play one more year in the NFL.

"I want to go back to Seattle, but this is business," he told the St. Paul Pioneer-Press. "They're still evaluating their roster. I guess there's not that many 12-year veterans that everyone wants. Everyone wants to go younger."

Williams, who played the 2014 season under a one-year, $2 million contract, added that he was not close to signing a contract with New Orleans.

"We talked. It was a good visit," he said. "I would fit in there. But I don't know what's going to happen."

Report: Saints brought in DT Kevin Williams for workout
by Marty Gitlin |

Six-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Kevin Williams worked out with the Saints this week, a league source has told ESPN, which is further reporting that it remains unclear if the two sides talked contract.

Williams was a standout with Minnesota before taking his talents last year to Seattle. He has 63 sacks in 12 seasons. He worked at the nose tackle spot for the Seahawks after Brandon Mebane went down.

New Orleans boasts little depth along the defensive line, which would explain their interest in Williams.

DT Kevin Williams' adjustment was key for Seahawks
by Larry Hartstein |

Seahawks defensive tackle Kevin Williams played his normal position, the three-technique, during the first nine games this season. When nose tackle Brandon Mebane suffered a season-ending hamstring injury, Williams moved over to replace him.

A six-time Pro Bowler at the three-technique, Williams started the final nine games, including playoffs, at nose tackle. He stabilized the defensive front and finished with 30 tackles and three sacks.

“It’s kind of unique how things happened,” Williams told the team's website. “You come in to help contribute wherever you can, you lose one of your starting players to injury and you’re moving to the nose. I’m just trying to do whatever I’m called upon to do and make plays.”

Williams is headed to his first Super Bowl after winning two playoff games during his 11-year tenure in Minnesota.

"It’s awesome, man,” Williams said. “I’m still kind of in a little disbelief, how we got it done and how the game unfolded. I was happy [Sunday night]. Now I’m back to concentrating on let’s get this other win now.”
