Husain Abdullah: Announces retirement

Abdullah announced his retirement Monday on his personal Instagram account.

The safety saw his role diminish last season on the Chiefs, as he accrued only 29 tackles over 11 games while sitting out five contests with a concussion. The 30-year-old played seven seasons in the league for the Vikings and Chiefs, recording six interceptions, 289 tackles, and 2.5 sacks for his career.

Abdullah's full participation in practice is a reassuring that he will be ready to go for Saturday's wild card game against the Texans. The free safety hasn't played since Week 12 against the Bills. An official decision about his status for Saturday should be made sometime on Friday.

Abdullah has not been a major factor as an IDPin 2015, as he's failed to collect an interception on the year. Nonetheless, the Chiefs will be without their projected starter at free safety, leaving Daniel Sorensen or Tyvon Branch as likely candidates to pick up extra defensive snaps.

On the team's final injury report of the week, the Chiefs list defensive end Allen Bailey(concussion) as out for Sunday's game. Bailey missed last week's game as well. 

Cornerback Phillip Gaines (concussion) is considered as doubtful. Linebacker Tamba Hali, who participated on a limited basis Friday, is questionable for Sunday with a knee injury. Hali missed practice Wednesday and Thursday. He has five sacks and three forced fumbles this year.

The following players are listed as probable: Husain Abdullah, Donnie Avery, Jamaal Charles, Anthony Fasano, Junior Hemingway, James-Michael Johnson, Joe Mays, Chris Owens and Sean Smith

Chiefs set with Friday injury report for Week 3

The Chiefs have issued their injury report Friday for their Sunday game against the host Dolphins. Safety Eric Berry (ankle) and running back De'Anthony Thomas (hamstring) have been ruled out.

Aside from running back Jamaal Charles, who is questionable with an ankle injury, everyone else is probable. They are linebackers Tamba Hali (ankle/knee) and Josh Martin (quad/tricep), safety Husain Abdullah (ankle/quad), running back Cyrus Gray (foot) and center Eric Kush (shoulder).

Safety Husain Abdullah, S Eric Berry, WR Dwayne Bowe, CB Marcus Cooper, LB Tamba Hali, WR Frankie Hammond Jr., WR Junior Hemingway, C Eric Kush and LB Josh Martin all came into the game listed as probable. They are all active Week 2.

Chiefs defense in good health for Week 2

The Chiefs have five players on the injury report for Week 2 against the Broncos, but as of Friday all are expected to play in Sunday's game.

Defensive backs Eric Berry (heel/quad), Husain Abdullah (quad) and Marcus Cooper (ankle), along with linebacker Josh Martin (quad) are all probable for Sunday's game after getting through the week in practice without issue.

Linebacker Tamba Hali (ankle/knee) was limited throughout the week, but is still considered probable for the game.

Chiefs defensive backs Husain Abdullah and Eric Berry are dealing with quad contusions, head coach Andy Reid announced Monday following Week 1's loss to the Titans.

Additionally, defensive lineman Tamba Hali tweaked his ankle in the game. At this point, none of these injuries sound serious, though the players' availability for Week 2 against the Broncos is in question until practice begins.

Husain Abdullah returns INT 44 yards for score

Chiefs safety Husain Abdullah intercepted a Terrelle Pryor fourth-quarter pass Sunday during the Week 6 win over Oakland and returned it 44 yards for a touchdown. 

That defensive touchdown iced the win for the Chiefs in the game. Abdullah finished with three tackles and half a sack for the Chiefs defense. 

The 28-year-old safety recorded his first career defensive touchdown with return Sunday. It was his first interception of the season and fifth of his career.

Chiefs safety Husain Abdullah (foot) and tight end Travis Kelce (knee) were both cleared to play Week 1 at Jacksonville after being questionable on the injury report. Safety Quintin Demps (hamstring), tackle Eric Fisher (shoulder), linebacker James-Michael Johnson (groin), linebacker Dezman Moses (toe), cornerback Sean Smith (neck) and tackle Donald Stephenson (shoulder) were also cleared after being listed as probable.

The Chiefs have signed former Vikings safety Husain Abdullah, who gave up football last season to make a pilgrimage to Mecca. A practicing Muslim, Abdullah turned down a contract offer from Minnesota to speak at mosques across the country along with his brother, former Cardinals defensive back Hamza Abdullah.
