Brent Celek: Enjoying retirement
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Celek officially retired from the NFL in August 2018, Zach Berman of The Athletic reports.

Celek was released by the Eagles in March 2018 and opted to called it a career prior to the start of the regular season. The 34-year-old totaled 398 receptions for 4,998 yards and 31 touchdowns across 11 seasons in Philadelphia.

Brent Celek: Released by Eagles
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Eagles have released Celek, reports.

With fellow tight end Trey Burton slated to sign with the Bears, the Eagles will need to add depth at the position, but Zach Ertz, who caught 74 passes in 14 games in 2017, does at least remain with the Super Bowl champs. Celek caught just 13 passes for 130 yards and a touchdown this past season, but the 33-year-old figures to catch on elsewhere, where his blocking prowess could remain an asset.

Eagles' Brent Celek: Not retiring
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Celek, who has a cap hit of $5 million for the 2018 season, doesn't intend to retire, Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Celek has missed just one game in his 11-year career, but his salary and associated costs to the Eagles' financials forecast a restructure of his current contract with fellow tight end Trey Burton set to explore unrestricted free agency in the offseason. Nearly seven years Celek's junior, Burton's receiving ability will be valuable on the open market after striking for five touchdowns last season. Celek's veteran status certainly is valuable within Philadelphia's blocking schemes, but a pay cut may be required to remain with the only organization he's ever known.

Eagles' Brent Celek: Finishes with career-low yardage total
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Celek finished the 2017 regular season with 13 receptions on 24 targets for 130 yards and a touchdown.

The 33-year-old took a pay cut before the season to remain with Philadelphia and it paid off big time with a Super Bowl win. Unfortunately, with Zach Ertz and Trey Burton ahead of him in terms of target share, the Cincinnati product's numbers also took a hit. Celek has a year remaining on the three-year deal he signed in 2016 and could be in line for an uptick in production if Burton leaves in free agency, but it is Ertz's health alone that will determine whether any other tight end on this team is relevant in 2018.

Eagles' Brent Celek: Role evaporates in Ertz's return
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Celek wasn't targeted while playing 23 of the Eagles' 68 offensive snaps (34 percent) in Sunday's 34-29 win over the Giants.

Both Celek and Trey Burton logged over 50 percent snap shares in last week's victory over the Rams while Zach Ertz (concussion) was sidelined, but the former two players unsurprisingly saw their usage decline Sunday with Ertz back in the fold. While Celek was able to score his first touchdown of the season against Los Angeles while getting targeted three times, he worked almost exclusively as a blocker this week with Ertz and Burton representing the team's clear top two receiving options at tight end. It's hard to envision Celek having a meaningful role in the Eagles' passing attack the rest of the way so long as his competition remains healthy.

Eagles' Brent Celek: Targeted twice in opener
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Celek caught one of two targets for 11 yards in Sunday's win over Washington.

With Zach Ertz and Carson Wentz's rapport evident since late last season, Celek is more of a blocking tight end for the Eagles at this point in his career. It is worth noting that the eight-year veteran saw more snaps and targets than Trey Burton, who had surpassed Celek as a receiving option last season. Nevertheless, Celek probably won't contribute much to fantasy teams this season.

Eagles' Brent Celek: Takes salary reduction
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Celek agreed to a decrease in his 2017 base salary from $4 million to $3 million, CSN Philly reports.

The move opens up more cap space for the Eagles, and the 32-year-old remains with the only NFL team he has ever known. Although listed as the number two tight end on the Eagles' depth chart, Celek was surpassed as a receiving option last season by third-year TE Trey Burton, who was targeted 60 times compared to Celek's 19. Barring injury to starter Zach Ertz, Celek's 2017 role should mostly come as a blocker.

Eagles' Brent Celek: One catch in Week 17
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Celek had one catch for nine yards on two targets in Sunday's 27-13 win over Dallas.

Celek hasn't seen much action this season as the third pass catching option at tight end for the Eagles, behind Zach Ertz and Trey Burton. In what was his 10th season, Celek finished with 14 catches on 19 targets for 155 yards and no touchdowns, all career lows.

Eagles' Brent Celek: Registers trio of receptions in Week 16 win
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Celek secured all three of his targets for 27 yards in Thursday's 24-19 win over the Giants.

The veteran tight end, once one of the NFL's better receiving options at the position, has seen a considerable downturn in recent seasons. However, he was a relevant part of the passing game Thursday, albeit in modest fashion. The three catches actually equaled a season high that Celek had established way back in Week 3, while the 27 yards served as his second-highest total in that category this season. Primarily a blocker and secondary target these days, Celek is tallying career lows in receptions (10) and yards (119) this season, and will finish a campaign without a score for the first time in his 10-year career if he's unable to get into the end zone against the Cowboys in the season finale on New Year's Day.

Eagles' Brent Celek: Catches one pass against Ravens
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Celek caught his only target for five yards in Sunday's loss to the Ravens.

Both Zach Ertz and Trey Burton sit ahead of Celek on the pass-catching pecking order at tight end, making him fairly irrelevant in most fantasy formats.

Eagles' Brent Celek: Anticipated to play Thursday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

According to Eagles coach Doug Pederson, Celek is expected to play Thursday against the Giants.

Celek suffered a stringer in Week 14 but was able to play in Sunday's loss to the Ravens, catching his lone target for five yards. After that involvement, news that Celek is slated to suit up again Thursday comes as no surprise.

Eagles' Brent Celek: Active in Week 15
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Celek (neck) is active for Sunday's contest in Baltimore, Adam Caplan of ESPN reports.

The stinger suffered by Celek last Sunday didn't inhibit his subsequent workload in practice this week. As a result, he'll back up starting tight end Zach Ertz, per usual.

Eagles' Brent Celek: Questionable for Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Celek (neck) is considered questionable for Sunday's game against the Ravens.

Celek suffered a stringer last weekend, but considering he was a full participant throughout practice this week, it'd be surprising if he wasn't available Sunday to face the Ravens.

Eagles' Brent Celek: Practices in full
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Celek (neck) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice.

While Celek was expected to miss some practice time after suffering a stinger in his neck during Sunday's game, the veteran was in fact at practice Wednesday, participating in full form. Barring any setbacks, he should be ready to play come Sunday's game in Baltimore.

Eagles' Brent Celek: Won't practice Wednesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Celek (neck) will not practice Wednesday, but coach Doug Pederson said he should be ready to play Sunday against the Ravens, The Philadelphia Inquirer's Jeff McLane reports.

Celek suffered a stinger during Sunday's loss to the Redskins, when he finished with two catches for seven yards. Although he doesn't contain much fantasy value, his injury, albeit minor, could give Trey Burton more opportunities to impress.

Eagles' Brent Celek: May have suffered stinger Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Celek is questionable to return to Sunday's contest against the Redskins due to a stinger.

Celek is a bit player in the Eagles' offense, as evidenced by two receptions for seven yards on this Sunday. The multi-catch outing marks just his second of the season through 13 games. Trey Burton could earn a few extra snaps as long as Celek is sidelined.

Eagles' Brent Celek: Catches 19-yard pass
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Celek caught his only target for 19 yards Sunday against the Seahawks.

Though Celek has now caught a pass in two consecutive games, he trailed both Zach Ertz (11) and Trey Burton (2) in targets Sunday. The veteran tight end is unlikely to maintain much, if any, fantasy relevance as long as his younger counterparts remain healthy.

Eagles' Brent Celek: Active for Week 10 versus Falcons
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Celek (ribs) is active for Sunday's Week 10 tilt versus the Falcons.

The veteran tight end will thus take the field, albeit at less than 100 percent, after putting in practices Thursday and Friday. He'll man the tight end spot alongside Zach Ertz and Trey Burton in what could be a high-scoring affair against the Falcons.

Eagles' Brent Celek: Questionable to play
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Celek (fractured ribs) is questionable to play Sunday against the Falcons.

Celek was able to return to practice Thursday after sitting out Wednesday, so his status appears on the rise. If he's ultimately unable to suit up, look for Trey Burton to see a considerable increase in playing time.

Eagles' Brent Celek: Limited in practice Thursday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Celek (ribs) was limited in practice Thursday.

Celek is making progress as he continues to nurse his fractured ribs which kept him sidelined for Wednesday's practice. Look for more updates to come as Sunday's tilt with the Falcons nears. If he is ultimately ruled out, look for Trey Burton to see an expanded role on offense.
