Vince Wilfork: Calls it quits
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Wilfork announced his retirement from professional football Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

There had been speculation for months that Wilfork would call it a career, but now it's finally official. Over his 13 NFL seasons, Wilfork recorded 16 sacks and over 550 tackles. He's widely regarded as one of the most dominant interior defensive linemen of his era.

Vince Wilfork: Expected to retire
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Texans general manager Rick Smith expects Wilfork to retire this offseason, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Wilfork is currently an unrestricted free agent after spending the past two seasons with the Texans. At 35 years old and with 13 NFL seasons in the books, Wilfork is obviously coming to the end of his playing career. While the five-time Pro Bowler said last month he's in no rush to make a decision, Smith's expectation echoes the sentiment that Wilfork has played his final snap.

Texans' Vince Wilfork: No decision on retirement
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Wilfork has not made a decision on his retirement at this point in time, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports. "I'm in no rush," Wilfork stated.

Wilfork, an unrestricted free agent, started all but one game for the Texans this past season and remained an integral part of the defensive line. While he isn't the same player he was in his prime, the 35-year-old nose tackle can still be an effective component of a defense in the right scheme and should thus be able to secure a job if he decides to continue his playing career.

Texans' Vince Wilfork: Anticipated to retire
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Wilfork is leaning toward retiring this offseason, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Wilfork said he thinks the Texans' playoff loss to the Patriots was the final game of his career, which coincidentally began in New England 13 years ago. With two Super Bowls and five Pro Bowls over that span, he has been a hugely impactful defensive anchor since entering the league as a first-round pick in 2004. Should the 35-year-old indeed confirm his retirement in the coming months, Wilfork will finish with 559 career tackles, 16 sacks, 12 fumbles forced, four fumble recoveries, and three interceptions.

Texans' Vince Wilfork: Key plays in Sunday's win
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Wilfork had two tackles and a quarterback hit in the Texans' 22-17 win over the Colts in Week 14.

Wilfork made two monster plays in the game. On a second-and-goal at the 2-yard line, he tackled Frank Gore for 1-yard loss, a play that preceded Jadeveon Clowney's strip-sack of quarterback Andrew Luck. And on the Colts' final play of the game, he hit Luck and forced the incompletion that secured Houston's victory. With just 19 tackles and zero sacks for the season, Wilfork isn't an IDP candidate, but has some real-world value as an interior presence.

Texans' Vince Wilfork: Active for MNF
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Wilfork (groin) is active Monday night against the Raiders.

Wilfork was previously questionable with a groin injury but had always been expected to play. Per usual, the 12-year veteran will likely assume his usual starting nose tackle role.

Texans' Vince Wilfork: Questionable to play
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Wilfork (groin) is questionable for Monday's game against the Raiders.

Wilfork was limited in practice this week after missing last Sunday's victory over the Jaguars with the same groin injury. Look for his status to be confirmed prior to kickoff. If he ultimately can't play, look for D.J. Reader to take over as the Texans' starting nose tackle.

Texans' Vince Wilfork: Limited in practice Thursday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Wilfork (groin) was limited in practice Thursday.

The nose tackle missed Sunday's win over the Jaguars due to the groin injury but seems to be on the right track toward a recovery. Look for more updates to come in the next couple of days, with D.J. Reader likely to take over as starter should Wilfork be ruled out.

by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Texans' Vince Wilfork: Questionable to play
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Wilfork (groin) is questionable to play Sunday against the Jaguars.

Wilfork is considered day-to-day with a groin injury he sustained back in Week 8. If he ultimately doesn't play, rookie fifth-rounder D.J. Reader will likely eat up the majority of available reps at nose tackle.

Texans' Vince Wilfork: Day-to-day
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Wilfork (groin) is day-to-day, according to head coach Bill O'Brien.

The veteran defensive tackle has been sidelined at practice this week after suffering a groin injury in Week 8 against the Lions. Wilfork had some extra time to heal during the Texans' bye last week, but the injury could still prohibit him from taking the field this Sunday. If that is the case, look for D.J. Reader to receive the spot start.

Texans' Vince Wilfork: Sidelined at Monday's practice
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Wilfork did not participate in practice Monday due to a groin injury, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Wilfork sustained his injury during the Texans' pre-bye game against the Lions in Week 8 and did not return. If he's unavailable to play Week 10 against the Jaguars, rookie D.J. Reader could make his first career start in his place.

Texans' Vince Wilfork: Questionable to return to Sunday's contest
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Wilfork suffered a groin injury in Sunday's contest against the Lions and is questionable to return.

Wilfork is the anchor along the Texans' defensive line, so a prolonged absence would likely affect Houston's run defense negatively. D.J. Reader stands to see increased snaps as long as Wilfork remains out.

Texans DT Vince Wilfork to push everyone to raise performance
by Dave Peters |

After spending 11 seasons with the Patriots, Texans defensive tackle Vince Wilfork is ready to put pressure on his new teammates and coaches to raise their performance levels, according to the team's official website.

"You have to put pressure on each individual, and that’s what I’m going to do," Wilfork said. "I’m going to put pressure on everybody. Not just myself. Not just the older guys. Not just J.J. (Watt). The quarterback. The coaches. No. It’s everybody."

"I’m not a rah-rah guy," Wilfork said. "And that’s one of the things that they’ll get to know quick. I love to have fun. I have the passion. I love the game. But if I need to say something, I will say something."

Entering his 12th season, the five-time All-Pro selection has recorded 516 total tackles, 16 sacks, 25 passes defensed, three interceptions and four forced fumbles.

Texans DT Vince Wilfork, DE J.J. Watt excited to work together
by Dave Peters |

After being signed by the Texans this offseason, defensive tackle Vince Wilfork is excited to be a part of a defensive line that includes J.J. Watt, reports ESPN. Watt told Wilfork that he is excited, as well.

"Yeah, we talked since I signed," Wilfork said in an interview. "He’s probably more excited than I am. But little does he know, I’m very excited to come down here."

Although the Texans will rely on Wilfork to be one of the leaders on the defense, he isn't going to try to change anything about Watt.

"My goal is to let J.J. be J.J.," Wilfork said. "I’m pretty sure the coaching staff is going to feel the same way, when you have a guy that dynamic. You can’t ask him to change anything. He’s been a beast, and hopefully he’ll continue to be that beast and I’m looking forward to it."

Over his 11-year career, the 33-year-old has compiled 516 total tackles, 16 sacks, 25 passes defensed, three interceptions and four forced fumbles.

DT Vince Wilfork says he's signing with Texans
by Larry Hartstein |

Former Patriots defensive tackle Vince Wilfork announced on Twitter that he's signing with the Texans. "This has been an interesting process for me and my family, one we have taken very seriously and given a lot of thought," Wilfork wrote.

"We want to thank the Kraft family and the entire Patriots organization for the last 11 years, however we will be starting a new chapter in our lives as Houston Texans," he continued. "The coaching staff in Houston has made this new exciting transition feel like home to us. We will forever be Patriots in our hearts. Thank you everyone for everything."

Wilfork, 33, has spent his entire career in New England. The Pats declined his option, making him a free agent.

He's played a full 16 games in four of the past five seasons and has 516 career tackles to go with 16 sacks. Wilfork is reuniting with Texans coach Bill O'Brien and defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel, who formerly coached in New England.

Report: NT Vince Wilfork is in Houston meeting with the Texans
by Jason Butt |

Free-agent nose tackle Vince Wilfork is in Houston to meet with the Texans, according to the Houston Chronicle

Wilfork's agent Kennard McGuire lives in Houston and has said in the past week that he's hopeful Wilfork will join the Texans. Wilfork and McGuire are close friends.

Before the Patriots declined the option on his contract, Wilfork had spent his entire 11-year career with the Patriots. In New England, he totaled 516 tackles and 16 sacks.

If Wilfork were to sign with the Texans, he would be reuniting with coach Bill O'Brien, defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel and linebackers coach Mike Vrabel. O'Brien and Crennel were coaches during his tenure with the Patriots and Vrabel was a teammate.

Texans, Vince Wilfork both interested in possible contract
by Jason Butt |

There is mutual interest between free-agent defensive tackle Vince Wilfork and the Texans, Wilfork's agent Kennard McGuire told Houston television station FOX 26.

"One of the benefits from the organization's standpoint is that of familiarity," McGuire said. "Vince played with [linebackers coach Mike] Vrabel. He was coached by [Bill O'Brien] and [defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel].

"I think all of those elements are appealing to Vince. As he weighs all of the options I believe when that landscape is clear I'm hoping that he will look here."

O'Brien and Crennel were former Patriots coaches and Vrabel was a teammate of Wilfork's with New England.

The Patriots declined to pick up Wilfork's option earlier this month. Wilfork has spent his entire career to this point in New England, totaling 516 tackles and 16 sacks.
