Alex Boone: Joins practice squad

Boone (calf) signed with the Seahawks' practice squad Wednesday, Joe Fann of NBC Sports Northwest reports.

Boone declared in March that he would return to football having not played in a game since 2017. The move was delayed because of the pandemic, but he's officially back with the Seahawks. The 33-year-old will add depth on the offensive line as the team pushes for the playoffs.

After Boone came out of the Cardinals' Week 3 loss to the Cowboys with a pectoral strain, it was expected that he'd miss at least two games, but the veteran guard has shown some progress this week in practicing on a limited basis three times, including Friday. According to Mike Jurecki of Arizona Sports 98.7 FM, Boone's availability for Sunday will come down to a game-time decision, so further word on his status should arrive shortly before the 1:00 p.m. EDT kickoff. Boone is looking for a new contract and has skipped the voluntary portion of the team's offseason workouts. He was reportedly in town on Monday and would attend the three-day minicamp.

Anquan Boldin, five others absent from 49ers OTA practice

Six players were absent from the 49ers' OTA practice on Thursday, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

Those not present were wide receiver Anquan Boldin, fullback Bruce Miller, offensive linemen Alex Boone and Anthony Davis, punter Andy Lee and kicker Phil Dawson.

OTA practices are voluntary and players are not required to attend.

Linebacker NaVorro Bowman was also not present though he was given the day off by 49ers coach Jim Tomsula. Bowman missed the 2014 season after sustaining an ACL tear during the 2013 playoffs.

49ers right guard Alex Boone plans to skip all voluntary offseason activities, according to a report from CSN Bay Area. Boone missed this week's 3-day minicamp. 

Boone is scheduled to make $3.4 million in 2015, but he's seeking an extension. 

Reportedly, Boone doesn't plan to skip training camp, but he would welcome a trade.

49ers guard Alex Boone and defensive back Raymond Ventrone on injured reserve and signed wide receiver Trindon Holliday and cornerback Cameron Fuller to their active roster. 

Ventrone only played eight games this season for San Francisco and recorded just three tackles.

Holliday was waived in Week 9 from the Buccaneers to promote Marcus Thigpen.

The 49ers' front office reached out recently to holdout Alex Boone, but the team's starting right guard "remains resolute in his stance," reports the Sacramento Bee. Boone signed his current contract in 2011 and now ranks 43rd in the NFL in average salary for guards, the paper said.

He's been a starter since the start of the 2012 season.

"I’m approaching training camp as a time to compete and get better, and I want to show the coaches I’m getting better every day," Looney said. "Alex Boone is a hell of a player and a hell of a guy, and him being gone is his business. But watching him on film every day, I want to come in and do a hell of a job like he does."
