NFL Power Rankings: Packers, Patriots are 1-2 as camps open

Who is the best team in the NFL right now?

That’s a tough question to answer with camps just opening this week, but as it relates to my first Power Rankings that truly focus on 2015, I will go with the Green Bay Packers.

The Packers blew their chance to win a Super Bowl last January with a late-game collapse of epic proportions against the Seattle Seahawks, who then came a bad end zone pick from beating the New England Patriots to win it all.

The Packers dominated the Seahawks in that NFC title game, even with Aaron Rodgers gimping around. They then had a fourth-quarter meltdown that ended with the Seahawks winning in overtime.

Credit to Seattle, but as we head to 2015 I think the Packers are the better team. The Patriots are in the second spot with Seattle at No. 3.

I always struggle to find a team ready to make a big jump, a non-playoff team that can compete for a postseason spot. I will go with two for now: Minnesota and Chicago. Yes, the Bears. That’s why they are 15th in these rankings.

They have a new coach, new systems on both sides of the ball and I think Jay Cutler will have a good season. The defense will be much improved, but then again it can’t be any worse.

The Vikings have a ton of young talent and a good coach in Mike Zimmer. And they have Adrian Peterson back. It’s either this year or next for them to make a big playoff push, depending on the growth of the young players.

The next set of rankings will come before the season begins. Hopefully, there aren’t a lot of major injuries to key players.
