Ulanov, Horcoff net two apiece as Oilers drop Flames

CBS wire reports

EDMONTON, Alberta -- Shawn Horcoff picked the right time to start scoring again.

Horcoff had his first two-goal game since opening night and Fernando Pisani's goal with 45 seconds left in regulation earned the Edmonton Oilers a 5-4 win over the Calgary Flames on Monday night.

"We never give up," Horcoff said of the Oilers, who rallied from a two-goal deficit to earn the victory. "We wear a lot of teams down."

Igor Ulanov also had two goals and Horcoff added an assist in his 300th NHL game for Edmonton, which has won three straight to move into a tie with Calgary for second place in the Northwest Division.

"Goals are such great confident builders for players," said Oilers coach Craig MacTavish. "He (Horcoff) was making a play every time he touched the puck."

Kristian Huselius had a goal and an assist for Calgary, which lost for the first time in four games. Daymond Langkow, Dion Phaneuf and Steven Reinprecht had the other goals.

Edmonton's Mike Morrison was pulled in the second period after allowing three goals on 10 shots after Phaneuf scored on the power play. Backup Jussi Markkanen surrendered a goal to Reinprecht on the first shot he faced 30 seconds later as the Flames took a 4-2 lead.

"The first half of the game was ours, the second half theirs," said Flames captain Jarome Iginla, an Edmonton native. "We have to find a way to hold the lead."

Ulanov's second goal sent the sold-out crowd to its feet in the second. Horcoff's second of the game tied it 4-4 in a frantic third period.

Calgary goalie Miikka Kiprusoff started slowly, allowing two goals on his first four shots he faced and five overall on 32 shots just two nights after earning his league-leading fifth shutout of the season.

"Usually Kipper is really sharp and he wasn't very sharp tonight," said Flames coach Darryl Sutter. "When you score four goals you should win the game."

  • Oilers LW Ethan Moreau had two assists to extend his point streak to seven games.
  • Injured Oilers forward Radek Dvorak, Ales Hemsky, and goaltenders Ty Conklin and Markkanen went through Olympic doping control Sunday as part of the Olympic eligibility process.
