Nashville at Calgary

Predators edge Flames to stretch streak to six games

CALGARY, Alberta -- Better known as one of the league's leaders in penalty minutes, Nashville Predators winger Darcy Hordichuk is getting attention for his assists lately.

Hordichuk had two assists Tuesday night -- giving him a goal and four assists in the last seven games -- and Scottie Upshall scored the tiebreaking goal with 6:47 left as the Predators rallied for a 4-3 victory over the Calgary Flames.

"I've never had this many points ... I'm at my career high," said a beaming Hordichuk, who has two goals and five assists after beginning the season with six points in 120 career games previously.

Nashville trailed 2-0 in the first period and 3-2 heading into the third. Jerred Smithson tied it at 8:46.

Calgary, which had won two in a row, held a two-goal lead after the first period on goals by Dion Phaneuf and Marcus Nilson. However, the Predators rallied in the second behind power-play goals from Adam Hall and Vernon Fiddler.

"I learned a lot about our character," Nashville coach Barry Trotz said. "We didn't back off. We didn't get off to the start we wanted. In the first period ... we took some undisciplined penalties and we didn't skate. But in the second and third periods we did skate and we played the way we have been playing and it showed in the final result."

Kristian Huselius put Calgary back in front late in the second, before the Flames squandered a lead for the 11th time in five games.

"We knew they would raise their game and we didn't match it after they started coming at us," the Flames' Jarome Iginla said. "It's a matter that later we've got to be better. I don't know if it's bearing down more or we've got to be more disciplined, but we're going to need to change and we have to do it in a hurry."

Despite the loss, Calgary remained tied with Edmonton for the top spot in the Northwest Division.

Calgary goalie Phillippe Sauve faced 40 shots, and Nashville counterpart Tomas Vokoun stopped 23 shots.

Iginla said the Flames made some mental mistakes late in the third period that allowed Nashville to gain momentum.

"They're a good team, they're fast and we knew they would be," he said. "We've got to match that and unfortunately we didn't."
