Calgary at St. Louis

Flames 3, Blues 2

ST. LOUIS -- The Calgary Flames needed a win, no matter how ugly.

Despite being outshot 30-23 and blowing a two-goal lead, Jarome Iginla and the struggling Flames pulled out a 3-2 victory over the St. Louis Blues on Saturday night.

Iginla sealed the win when he scored a power-play goal with 4:27 left.

With Blues forward Bill Guerin off for slashing, Iginla got the puck from Robyn Regehr and moved from the right boards into the circle. He squeezed a wrist shot past goalie Manny Legace, who was screened by Calgary center Daymond Langkow, for his 12th goal.

"He (Langkow) told me it was just the right height," Iginla said. "A little higher it would have hit him, and a little lower, he (Legace) would have had it."

Matthew Lombardi and Byron Ritchie also scored and Miikka Kiprusoff made 28 saves for the Flames, who snapped a four-game losing skid. Calgary, beaten in Columbus on Friday night, has won twice in nine games.

The Flames appeared as though they might be in for an easy night, as they scored two goals midway through the first period. But the Blues tied it early in the second period, and it stayed that way until Iginla scored with less than five minutes left.

"We had a good start, but the Blues have a lot of firepower and they fought back," Iginla said. "Tonight, it was a matter of finding a way not to get upset that we lost a two-goal lead and find a way (to win)."

Calgary coach Jim Playfair counts more than just the bottom line, however.

"The details are really important," Playfair said. "When you lose, you focus on the loss and we focus on the way we lost and the way we have to improve the team. If it's just about the wins and losses, you'll never get control of how your team is playing."

Guerin scored his team-leading seventh goal, and Keith Tkachuk had the other goal for St. Louis.

"We had them," Guerin said. "We battled back and we carried the momentum. We just didn't finish it off."

The Flames got on the board six minutes in when Alex Tanguay broke in on right wing and fed a pass into the slot to Lombardi, who backhanded it into the net. Ritchie made it 2-0 at 11:19 of the first when he redirected Andrew Ference's centering pass by Legace.

Guerin got the Blues back in it when he scored off a scramble in the slot at 14:58 of the first period to make it 2-1. Tkachuk tied it 1:54 into the second with a power-play goal.

In 13 games with the Blues, Guerin is more than halfway to his goal total of last season (13) with Dallas. ... Calgary went 1-2 on its three-game road trip. ... Tkachuk extended his scoring streak to four games. He has six points in those contests.
