ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Teemu Selanne scored a power-play goal on a pass from new Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf with 3:57 left in overtime, and Anaheim beat the Los Angeles Kings 3-2 in both clubs' exhibition finales Sunday.

Justin Williams and Jack Johnson scored in the final 4:10 of regulation for the Kings, but Selanne beat Jonathan Bernier for his first goal of the preseason after Los Angeles took a bench minor for too many men on the ice.

Getzlaf also scored a third-period goal while wearing the "C" for the first time. Earlier in the weekend, Getzlaf's teammates elected the powerful center to succeed retired defenseman Scott Niedermayer as the eighth captain in Ducks history.

"I'm extremely honored to receive that," said Getzlaf, a gold medal-winning Canadian Olympian heading into his sixth NHL season. "With the group that we have here, it won't be weighing on my mind. This room is full of leaders, but it comes with a certain responsibility, and I accept that and look forward to it."

Selanne, who briefly served as the Ducks' captain in 1998, and longtime Montreal captain Saku Koivu were elected Anaheim's alternate captains, coach Randy Carlyle said. Niedermayer had been Anaheim's captain for four of the past five seasons, with Chris Pronger wearing the "C" for one season while Niedermayer contemplated retirement.

"Normally, the coaching staff makes those decisions, but we're a team that's transitioning some of our youth into major roles, and we felt it was best that our players made that decision," Carlyle said. "We felt that by Getz's sixth season in the league, it was time, and our veterans support the move."

Jonas Hiller made 41 saves in the Swiss goalie's fourth appearance of the preseason for Anaheim. Corey Perry, Getzlaf's fellow Canadian Olympian and longtime linemate, also got his fifth goal of the preseason for the Ducks.

Bernier stopped 18 shots for the Kings in his first game since officially earning Los Angeles' backup job behind Jonathan Quick. The Kings skated without several regulars, including captain Dustin Brown, leading scorer Anze Kopitar and veteran Ryan Smyth.

Perry scored during a two-man advantage in the opening minutes. After a scoreless second period, Getzlaf set up his own 4-on-4 goal early in the third with an exceptional breakaway pass off the boards to Matt Beleskey.

Brendan Mikkelson directed the rebound of Beleskey's shot back to Getzlaf for his second goal of the preseason. Getzlaf led the Ducks with nine points in just five preseason games.

Shortly after Williams scored a wraparound short-handed goal to ruin Hiller's shutout bid, Johnson bounced a shot through traffic, off Lubomir Visnovsky and past Hiller.
