Brooks Laich has procedure on lower body, expected out 4-6 weeks
The Washington Capitals will have to make their playoff push down another centerman. Brook Laich is expected to miss 4-6 weeks for a lower-body injury.
Laich labored through the Capitals' 4-3 victory on Friday against the Canucks at home and then sat out Sunday's game against the Maple Leafs. So on Monday, Laich underwent a procedure to release a tight adductor, in the thigh.
Laich, who has spent all but one game in his 10 NHL seasons with the Capitals, has struggled to steay healthy over the past two seasons. In the shortened season of 2013, he played in only nine games, this after missing only four games in the previous five seasons combined.
This season Laich appeared in 51 games with eight goals and seven assists, clearly not quite the same player he was a few years ago. Still, he gives the Capitals valuable center depth as they make a push for the playoffs. They are already dealing without Mikhail Grabovski.
If they make it then perhaps Laich could return for the first round of the playoffs but they'll have to get there without him.
