When the Buffalo Sabres take on the San Jose Sharks tonight, they will do so as the biggest underdog in a game since 2010, according to odds makers at Bovada.

The Sharks are -400 favorites, meaning a bet of $400 would net you $100 if San Jose won the game. The last time there was this big of an underdog was when the favored Detroit Red Wings hosted the Edmonton Oilers on March 30, 2010 according to Bovada. The line for that game opened at -400 and closed at -420.

This is a testament to both how good the Sharks have been this year and how dismal the Sabres have been.

To put this in further context, the Florida Panthers, the NHL’s worst team by record last season, were only an underdog of more than +200 in six of 48 games, but never came close to the line we’re seeing for San Jose-Buffalo.

Now, if you’re a betting man or woman, and you like to gamble, a $100 bet on the Sabres would win you $350 if Buffalo could pull off the unlikely upset.

The Sharks are the highest scoring team in the NHL with 53 goals in 14 games and are 10-1-3 on the year, good for third overall in the league. Meanwhile, the Sabres are dead last with just two wins in 16 tries. So, good luck?
