Evgeni Malkin practices, thinks he'll play Game 1 on Wednesday
Evgeni Malkin has been out the last few weeks with a foot injury but he practiced on Tuesday and said he thinks he'll be ready for Game 1 against Columbus.
Malkin took to the ice with the Penguins on Tuesday and from his account, things went really well. So well that when Game 1 comes on Wednesday against the Blue Jackets, Malkin is expecting he'll be ready to go.
Malkin: "I feel great. I think I will play."— Josh Yohe (@JoshYohe_Trib) April 15, 2014
That would qualify as exceptional news for the Penguins, now wouldn't it? The Penguins are certainly still very dangerous with Sidney Crosby but with he and Malkin both on the ice things obviously get a lot tougher for the Blue Jackets.
Malkin was limited to 60 games this season as the Penguins injury bug found him too, but he still finished second on the team with 72 points, 30 coming on the power play alone. Of course he was back on the top power-play unit in practice, making that terrifying unit close to whole again.
Originally when Malkin went down they gave a timeline of around three weeks, which is coming up in a two days so he is pretty much on target for the estimated return and it's not that this is a surprise for the Penguins. But that doesn't make it any less important.
