Flames honor Jarome Iginla with tribute video in return to Calgary
The Bruins made a trip to Calgary on Tuesday and that meant the long-awaited return of Jarome Iginla. The team played a tribute video and the crowd cheered. And cheered some more.
The franchise icon for so many years and captain for a decade, Iginla was traded to the Penguins last season as the Flames fell out of contention for another year. It was an emotional good bye and the fans never really had a chance to give him a true send-off. They did on Tuesday night when Iginla's new team, the Bruins, made their visit to Calgary.
Boy did they ever give him a proper greeting.
Before the game when the Bruins came out for the warmups, the Iggy! chants started. The roars continued into the pregame ceremonies when Iginla took part in the ceremonial faceoff and then the video above that played. What followed was a standing ovation that lasted a couple of minutes, years and years of appreciation for not only the greatest player in franchise history, but one of the greatest people in hockey as well.
Major kudos to Calgary, that's how it's done.
