A Jarome Iginla trade could be getting close.

The Calgary Flames announced on Wednesday evening, less than two hours before the opening faceoff of their game against the Colorado Avalanche, that Iginla will be a healthy scratch.

The easy assumption is that a trade is either very close or the Flames are simply making sure he doesn't get injured in advance of next Wednesday's trade deadline.

Iginla, who is a free agent after this season, has been mentioned in numerous trade rumors in recent weeks and reportedly gave Flames management a list of four teams he would accept a trade to. Those teams were, according to the reports, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Los Angeles and Boston.

Adding to the intrigue is the word that Bruins top prospect Alexander Khokhlachev was also a healthy scratch in the American Hockey League.

Iginla has nine goals and 13 assists in 30 games for the Flames this season.

A first-round draft pick by the Dallas Stars back in 1995, Iginla was traded to Calgary less than a year later for Joe Nieuwendyk and has been with the Flames ever since.
