Joffrey Lupul suffered a concussion; Grabovski has GI illness
Joffrey Lupul suffered a concussion when he was hit last week, and Mikhail Grabovski is undergoing tests for a GI illness that has plagued him for several years.
It seemed to only be a matter of time, but the Toronto Maple Leafs finally confirmed on Friday that forward Joffrey Lupul did in fact suffer a concussion last week.
He was injured against the Philadelphia Flyers when he was sandwiched between Brayden Schenn and Jay Rosehill along the boards. It was clear he took a shot to the head, and there was immediate speculation he suffered a concussion. The Leafs refused to confirm that was the case (and it even resulted in some bizarre theories from coach Randy Carlyle) and didn't want to use the word concussion.
Lupul seemed to think on Thursday that he probably suffered one even if the Leafs had yet to confirm it (the team said their initial tests were inconclusive).
But that wasn't the only situation the Leafs addressed on Friday.
Forward Mikhail Grabovski was not present at practice, which raised some eyebrows after he was relegated to fourth-line duty during the Leafs' most recent game, playing just 11 minutes during a 3-2 shootout loss to the Rangers.
Carlyle announced on Friday that Grabovski was still in New York undergoing tests for a gastrointestinal illness that has plagued him for a couple of years. It's apparently gotten worse recently and resulted in him losing some weight.
It's not yet known if he will be available for Toronto's game on Saturday night.
