LOOK: Roller skate guards are (going to be) the next big thing in the NHL

It's 2017 and people hate walking. That's why Segways, hoverboards and other modernized ways to avoid walking exist. That's also why roller skate guards are about to pop off in the NHL.

Buffalo Sabres forward Ryan O'Reilly can be credited with sparking the trend when it happens, as O'Reilly was spotted wearing them at Sabres camp on Wednesday. Soon, he won't be the only one.

Walking in ice skates is awkward, while rollerskating can be quite a lot of fun, so this seems like a marriage made in heaven. Honestly, it's kind of amazing that it took so long to exist. 

Now all that's left to do is wait for NHL players to have 'Brink' style races to the arena on gamedays.
