Matt Moulson on benching: 'Most embarrassed I've been in my career'
Matt Moulson, who along with both line mates sat out the last 26:11 of the Sabres' loss to Anaheim, feels awfully embarrassed about his benching.
Matt Moulson, the newest member of the Buffalo Sabres, was benched along with linemates Cody Hodgson and Tyler Ennis for the last 26:11 of the team's 6-2 loss to the Anaheim Ducks on Friday night. That's a pretty significant amount of time to sit on the bench for a guy who has scored 30 or more goals three times in his career.
So how did Moulson feel about it? John Vogl of the Buffalo News found out:
"It's the most embarrassed I've been in my career," Moulson said.
Moulson told Vogl he didn't know why he was benched and to ask head coach Ron Rolston.
"We've got to work, and we didn't feel that the work was there," Rolston told reporters after the game about his top line's stay on the bench.
The Sabres' most dangerous offensive trio managed just one shot on goal in the action it did see against the Ducks. Meanwhile, the Sabres got a pair of goals from Mikhail Grigorenko, who had previously been struggling mightily.
Moulson very well could be on the way out of town via trade eventually, but in only his second week with the team, it couldn’t have been easy sitting on the bench for that length of time.
There's plenty of blame to go around after Friday night's drubbing at the hands of the Ducks on the road. Goaltender Ryan Miller, who was pulled for the third period after giving up six goals in the first two frames, called the game "a disaster to be a part of."
Things haven't been going great in Buffalo, but that loss to the Ducks and all that happened during the game might have been rock bottom.
