NHL Daily Fix: Ducks' Staubitz spears Stars' Dillon

The NHL Daily Fix is your morning wakeup call with news and notes for the day's hockey action.

Morning Buzz

Just one night after Detroit's Johan Franzen was ejected for spearing David Perron, the NHL had yet another spearing incident in Dallas. Anaheim Ducks forward Brad Staubitz earned a five-minute major and a game misconduct for spearing Stars defenseman Brenden Dillon as seen in the above video.

The NHL decided Franzen would not see any supplemental discipline, and it'll probably be the same for Staubitz. It has been a while since the NHL suspended a player for spearing (none in the past two years), and the league seems to believe the major penalty and game misconduct are enough punishment.

Dallas beat the Ducks 3-1.

Kris Letang is still out for the Penguins and did not accompany the team on its trip to New Jersey for Saturday's game. The Pens return home to play the Devils on Sunday night.

Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Sharp hasn't scored a goal in seven games.

"I've been in situations like this before," said Sharp, via the Chicago Tribune. "I'm going to remain confident and keep shooting the puck. I'll get open, and hopefully one goes in."

That's all you can do as a player. All players run hot and cold at times over the course of a season. Slumps happen, even to the best. He's still getting shots, and they'll eventually start going in. The Blackhawks are still the only team in the NHL without a regulation loss.
