When they defeated the San Jose Sharks on Sunday night the Pittsburgh Penguins won the 2016 Stanley Cup, claiming the fourth title in franchise history.
They are already the favorites to win it again next season.
The folks at Bovada released their initial Stanley Cup odds for the 2016-17 season on Monday and the Penguins opened up as the early favorites at 8-1. They are followed immediately by the reigning Presidents' Trophy winning Washington Capitals and the Chicago Blackhawks, both at 10-1.
The Sharks open up at 14-1.
The longest shot? That would be the Buffalo Sabres and Toronto Maple Leafs, both at 66-1.
It is worth pointing out that the NHL has not had a repeat champion since the Detroit Red Wings won back-to-back Stanley Cups in 1997 and 1998.
The only other team to win consecutive Stanley Cups since 1990 was the Penguins when they did it in 1991 and 1992.
