While these NHL Power Rankings do weigh things like wins, losses, and a slew of statistics, they also take vibes into consideration. And because of the vibes surrounding the team, the Buffalo Sabres are rapidly rising in these rankings.
Since the start of December, Buffalo has been one of the best teams in the league by playing a fun and chaotic brand of hockey.
Tage Thompson is absolutely wrecking the league and he scored another hat trick on Tuesday night against the Washington Capitals, with his third goal coming in overtime. Other members of the young core like Dylan Cozens, Rasmus Dahlin and Owen Power are all coming into their own, and 41-year-old goaltender Craig Anderson has turned back the clock.
All of this adds up to a team that is both entertaining and dangerous. The Sabres haven't qualified for the Stanley Cup Playoffs since 2011, and this fan base is dying for postseason hockey. It will still be tough to Buffalo to get there this year, but this team is finally providing some hope for brighter days ahead.
