NHL Rumors: Oilers might try and trade down after all, covet D Griffin Reinhart
So are the Oilers going to trade out of the No. 1 spot to draft a defenseman after all?
But this is the NHL Draft. Things change every hour. Because now the Oilers are reportedly back to where they started and considering trading down to try and get a defenseman -- their No. 1 need -- later in the first round.
We've known Griffin Reinhart is guy Oilers really like. Word now that EDM may trade down, don't want pressure of him being No. 1.— Mark Spector Sports (@SportsnetSpec) June 22, 2012
Heard originally Reinhart Oil's 2nd choice. Could be become first choice? There's some drama here now.— Mark Spector Sports (@SportsnetSpec) June 22, 2012
The reason this has been speculated on since the moment the Oilers won the lottery is the fact that they have picked No. 1 the past two years and taken dynamic forwards with their picks. The top prospect this year is another forward, Nail Yakupov. The problem with that is the Oilers need help on defense so why not drop back, gain some assets for it and still get your No. 1 need in the process?
We'll have to see if they can drop back, that's the big question. The Blue Jackets are looking to do the same at No. 2 according to their GM. There has been some mention of the Ducks dropping out of the No. 6 spot as well. A lot of teams are looking to move down, but who is looking to move up, and at what cost?
Oilers GM Steve Tambellini has four hours to figure it all out.
