Niklas Kronwall stretchered off ice after hit from Cody McLeod
Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall had to be taken off the ice on a stretcher Thursday night after a hit from Colorado's Cody McLeod.
Kronwall goes down hard after a dirty hit to the head by McLeod. Kronwall leaves the ice on a stretcher. More info will come. Hope he's ok.— Detroit Red Wings (@DetroitRedWings) October 18, 2013
Thankfully, Kronwall was responsive and moving his hands while leaving the ice on the stretcher, always a positive in situations like this, especially after he lay on the ice for several minutes.
It's the second time this week that we've seen a prominent defenseman leave the ice on a stretcher after a big hit into the boards. In this case the hit came from Colorado's Cody McLeod, who was given a five-minute major and a game misconduct.
Surely he'll also be given a hearing with the NHL's discipline office in the near future as well. You have to be careful near the boards when a player has his back to you, no matter if the player moves there is still an onus on the hitter as the league has proven time and time again.
