Photo of the night: Goalies stare down as scrum ensues
When Corey Crawford got involved in a scrum involving Jonathan Toews, Kings goalie Jonathan Bernier came forward, leaving a great photo.
With Game 2 in Chicago's control more than halfway through the third period, things started to escalate and get out of hand fast as the extracurricular activity increased. It led to this gem of a shot as tweeted by Aaron Ward of TSN of Kings goalie Jonathan Bernier looking down the ice from the neutral zone at Blackhawks netminder Corey Crawford as their teammates battled it out.
It all started with a scrum right in front of Crawford where the Kings' Kyle Clifford took down Michal Rozsival and then Colin Fraser gave a push to Jonathan Toews. Seeing that, Rozsival jumped back in and took on Fraser while Toews and Clifford got tangled up.
In a reversal of roles, Crawford took it upon himself to save his captain, grabbing Clifford around the head and pulling him away from Toews. That involvement is likely what drew Bernier from his crease but alas, no goalie fight ensued. GIF via @cjzero.
"That was great," Toews said of Crawford's rescue. "I was pretty much laughing.”
"He got three shots in [on Toews]," Crawford said of Clifford. "Figured it was enough. Just decided to go in there and grab his head."
Somehow, the Kings actually ended up with a power play out of this scrum with Toews getting two minutes as well.
Here is video of the whole sequence.
