After getting injured in a fight with Aaron Volpatti last week, Steve Downie returned to Flyers practice with one nasty shiner.
Steve Downie showed just how dangerous a human fist can be when it makes contact with a human face. After taking a vicious punch during a fight from Capitals tough guy Aaron Volpatti, Downie left the now infamous game last Friday between Washington and Philadelphia.
Downie was later taken to the hospital and remained there for two nights for observation. The noted agitator, whom the Flyers acquired last Thursday in a trade with Colorado, was back at Flyers practice today and it wasn’t pretty.
I’m no doctor, but I don’t think your eye is supposed to be that shade of crimson.
Downie will not play tonight against the Devils, but may be able to return to action sooner than expected while wearing a full face shield.
