Goalie masks are great, but super patriotic goalie masks? Well, those are pretty much awesome. Especially this mask designed by David Leroux of Diel Airbrush for Minot State goalie Wyatt Waselenchuk, who will be part of the U.S. Men’s National University Team this year.

Waselenchuk’s mask features Jim Craig, goaltender for the 1980 U.S. Olympic Team of Miracle on Ice fame, on one side and the ever-pointing Uncle Sam on the other. Not to mention, bald eagle silhouettes everywhere. It’s like an explosion of America and hockey and it’s wonderful.

Waselenchuk will be joined on Team USA by other players from the American Collegiate Hockey Association, which is the governing body for non-varsity or collegiate club hockey in the U.S. The National University Team will compete in the Winter World University Games, which is kind of like the Olympics for athletes currently competing for their schools.

Unlike the traditional hockey institutions, players from schools like Waselenchuk’s defending ACHA national champion Minot State, Iowa State, Eastern Michigan, Illinois and Arizona State will make up Team USA’s roster.

Team USA will meet Sweden in the tournament’s opening game on Dec. 10 in Trentino, Italy.
