Glen Sather says he can't negotiate against himself when it comes to working out a new contract with young defenseman Michael Del Zotto.

New York Rangers defenseman Michael Del Zotto is one of the many restricted free agents in the NHL still without a contract. The 22-year-old just completed his entry-level deal and what was his best season in the NHL offensively.
General manager Glen Sather briefly discussed the ongoing negotiations over the weekend and told Andrew Gross of the Bergen Record in New Jersey that Del Zotto will eventually "come to his senses" before also adding, "Our offer is what it is. You can't negotiate against yourself."
The Rangers have reportedly offered Del Zotto a contract that would pay him around $2.5 million per season.
The 20th overall drafte in 2008, Del Zotto has scored 21 goals in parts of three seasons in the NHL.
In 77 games this past season, a year that saw him take on his biggest role with the Rangers to date, Del Zotto scored 10 goals to go with 31 assists. He led all Rangers defensemen in scoring while also helping quarterback the power play.
He still has big-time offensive upside and has become a key part of a strong defense in New York with Marc Staal and the shutdown pairing of Ryan McDonagh and Dan Girardi . While he should continue to be a productive player on the offensive end of the ice, he still seems to be a work in progress defensively and is prone to some lapses in his own end of the ice that can sometimes make things a little more interesting than they need to be for Rangers goalies.
Along with Del Zotto, some of the other top remaining restricted free agents around the NHL without contracts include Montreal Canadiens 's P.K. Subban , Washington Capitals 's John Carlson , Dallas Stars ' Jamie Benn , Colorado Avalanche 's Ryan O'Reilly and Winnipeg Jets 's Evander Kane .
