Los Angeles Kings backup goalie Jonathan Bernier would like to be traded, and the Columbus Blue Jackets would probably like to upgrade the position before the start of the season.

Seems like it should be a perfect match.

According to Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch, Blue Jackets general manager Scott Howson has contacted the Kings regarding Bernier.

Columbus' goaltending situation has to be considered one of the worst in the league, even after Sergei Bobrovsky in a predraft trade with the Philadelphia Flyers. There were only four goalies in the NHL last season that appeared in at least 20 games and finished with a save percentage below .900. Two of them play for the Blue Jackets -- Bobrovsky, and former Rookie of the Year Steve Mason, who is coming off yet another disappointing season in Columbus.

Bernier has been a highly touted prospect as he's advanced through the Kings system since being a first-round pick in 2006, but he's probably never going to get an opportunity to be the No. 1 guy in Los Angeles due to the presence of Jonathan Quick.

Quick is coming off the best season of his career and took home the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP during the Kings' Stanley Cup run. He was rewarded with a 10-year contract extension earlier this summer and seems to have the position locked down for the foreseeable future.

The 23-year-old Bernier recently appeared on TVA Sports and told that he asked the Kings to trade him before the deadline, and that he expects to be dealt before the start of the season.

Bernier is 20-17-5 with a .910 save percentage in a career 48 NHL games. That line would be an upgrade in net for the Blue Jackets as they finished last season with the fourth-worst save percentage in the league, ahead of only Tampa Bay, Toronto and the New York Islanders.
