Los Angeles Kings defenseman Drew Doughty was investigated for an alleged sexual assault that occurred earlier this year, according to a report from the Los Angeles Times.

Sandi Gibbons, a district attorney's spokesperson, told the Times “It’s under review" and that she expects a resolution "this week.”

Doughty's attorney is also quoted as saying that he expects the case to be dismissed this week.

The alleged incident occurred back on March 1, according to a report from TMZ. The report also states that the case will be rejected by the District Attorney's office due to "a lack of evidence" and what is said to be "major issues with the woman's credibility."

The 22-year-old Doughty signed an eight-year, $56 million contract before the start of the season. He appeared in 77 regular season games for the Kings this season, scoring 10 goals to go with 26 assists. In 20 playoff games he had four goals and 12 assists for the Kings on their way to the franchise's first ever Stanley Cup.
