Dallas Stars forward Rich Peverley made his first public statements since he collapsed on the bench on Monday night, taking the opportunity to thank everybody involved in a prepared statement. The team doctor also announced that Peverley's season is finished.

Peverley, looking excellent given what he went through a couple of days ago, had a lot of thank yous to share.

"On behalf of my wife, all of my family and myself I'd like to thank the number of people who saved my life," Peverley said. "They all attended to me once I passed out and they saved my life and I will forever be grateful."

After his brief statement, Peverley then stood up, shook hands with everybody on the dais which included head coach Lindy Ruff, GM Jim Nill and the doctors who have been attending to Peverley before walking out.

The team doctor later explained everything that happened with Peverley and how it was believed he played in the Stanley Cup Final last season with atrial fibrillation. He went on to say that Peverley's season is over and that he will be heading to Cleveland to undergo a surgery to perhaps try and fix the issue.

As far as continuing to play hockey down the line, the doctors said they aren't able to say right now if Peverley will be able to continue his career or not at this time.

Nill also spoke and thanked everybody involved including the Blue Jackets for their support and response amid the incident during the game and one unnamed doctor from the stands. When Peverley collapsed, Ruff immediately turned around and shouted for help and while the team doctors were springing into action, she hopped down from her seat and helped in the time of emergency.

All told, the doctors said that from the time Peverley collapsed until the time he was down the tunnel and being treated was just 14 seconds, a terrific response time in such a situation. Ruff explained how it was a thing of beauty watching how swiftly the doctors reacted, something he would rather not see again but he couldn't help but marvel.
